AMD definitely rushed out the 9000 series chips before the software and Microsoft was ready w/ W11 24H2. They apparently have a fix now for the super high inter-CCD latency that was slowing down some of the reviewer benchmarks. Hardware reviewers are gonna hate AMD for making them do the same tests basically 3 times.
We'll see if it results in any large performance gains like the windows update.

End of the road for Anandtechhttps://www.anandtech.com/show/21542...dtech-farewell
"It is with great sadness that I find myself penning the hardest news post I’ve ever needed to write here at AnandTech. After over 27 years of covering the wide – and wild – word of computing hardware, today is AnandTech’s final day of publication.

For better or worse, we’ve reached the end of a long journey – one that started with a review of an AMD processor, and has ended with the review of an AMD processor. It’s fittingly poetic, but it is also a testament to the fact that we’ve spent the last 27 years doing what we love, covering the chips that are the lifeblood of the computing industry."

For quite a long time it was my favourite hardware site.

I figured its days were numbered when Anand left. It lasted longer than I expected though. It was one of my favourite hardware sites as well.

Yeah I did as well but it's been a decade since then? Time flies.

Yeah it certainly does.

I just found out Emily is leaving LMG (Linus Tech Tips). They were my favourite host so I'm bummed to hear that, but I definitely wish her well.

My PC is randomly going black and the video card fan goes to 100%, I have to hard reset. I'm pretty sure the computer is still running (or at least the hard drive led is still doing typical random flickering), so it could be the video card?
It's only happened 3 times though in the past month, probably not enough info yet to be able to RMA the card... Maybe I should run it through some furmark sessions to see if I can trigger it.

Was sick all weekend so I didn't reply, but make sure you run OCCT VRAM tests as well; I had a card doing this awhile back it was a bum VRAM chip, so when a game would try to read from that module it would hard lock.

That would have been nice, I was out of town for a bit and now I'm back I can't even play a YouTube video let alone play a game without it crashing..
I will have to check to see if I've got an older video card kicking around just to confirm that it isn't my computer, or my nephew has a 960 or 980 he can lend me. I've reinstalled the drivers doing a clean install, installed all the recent updates.. I guess the only thing I haven't tried is updating the BIOS, I could try that next.

OCCT adaptive 3D test failed within about a minute of starting it but all the temps seemed normal so I don't think it's anything like that.

I messaged nvidia support about it just to get the ball rolling and see what they'll want me to do with it.

nvidia started out by just asking me to clean up all the drivers with their cleanup tool and reinstall the latest.. did that and no change.
Then they asked me to send them a bunch of diagnostic info like msinfo32 output and such.. they said the BIOS wasn't up to date so to try updating that.

I did that (and I also noticed there was an updated AMD chipset driver) and after that it seems to be working better.. at least I was able to game for a few hours with no issue where yesterday it'd crash within minutes of starting a game.

Same BIOS I've used for 6 months at least with no issues.. I guess we'll see if it keeps being ok.

Anyone have recommendations on where to buy quality refurbished gaming laptops? Looking for a reputable company, preferably Canadian based.

Nope, it did it again so back to nvidia to see what else they want me to do to get an RMA.

It’s times like these you miss EVGA.

And it looks like the other gaming AMD CPU's are pushed back to next year? And the 5090 for something like $2500 USD/$3500 CAD? It's too bad AMD simply cannot compete at high end gaming.

Whew! Sell some Nvidia shares to buy a single card next year? |

That's insane if it ends up being that price. Is sales of the top cards just so small they don't care how many 5090's they sell??
Thankfully it'll probably be a few years until games aren't able to run at 60+fps at 4K HDR on the 4090 so maybe GPU prices will come back down to earth before I need to upgrade.

It probably will be because the rumor is the 80s series class will have 24gb so the 5090 might be the 48gb card that was floating around 6 months ago.

Could be, though the most recent leaks had the 5090 with 32GB and the 5080 with 16GB. The 5090 had 21760 CUDA cores while the 5080 had 10752 (the 4090 was 16384 CUDA cores and the 4080 was 9728).
That big jump in CUDA cores if true makes the 5090 priced that high a bit more plausible, but the 5080 doesn't seem like much of a jump. I've read they're targeting the 5080 to be 1.1x that the 4090, but I bet that's in full RT, I doubt straight rasterization will be that much of an improvement from the 4080 -> 5080.

 Will be interesting.

Ya, I saw the latest leaks. There's also none spec chart leaks the 80 class replaces the 90 class in name and they throw 48 gb in the 90 series to blur the lines between consumer and enterprise lines .

Not going to lie . Now that I have been making money from 3d printing and a 4k gamer I may buy at least 1 5090 at either spec. I wasn't going to as I upgraded 6 months ago from a 4090 7800x3d custom loop to 4090 14900ks custom loop. If reviews come out and they are that much superior to current gen .. It will be hard not to . Faster render times and my lg flex and oled 9 meeting the higher refresh rate Max's.. who knows.

As per the usual I will be pre-ordering the Founder's Edition/OEM version direct from NVIDIA (should it exist) but I hope they keep the cooling design similar to the 4090 OEM. It is so superior to the 3xxx OEM it wasn't even funny.
