What an adventure! The end of the special was pretty....special. I won't spoil it for those that haven't watched.
Overall, this was an amazing series to watch. This last special got me thinking about the series in general. I remember 10-15 years ago before the age of streaming, it would be an event when the torrent for the most recent Top Gear came out on FinalGear. I was in university at the time and it would always be a special time to sit in front of the computer monitor with some cereal dinner on a Sunday night and watch the episode. Every episode that would come out was always interesting and always better than the last. There were times where the scripted portions were a bit too much but overall it was so much fun - especially with the specials.
When the three hosts moved from Top Gear to the Grand Tour it was very exciting but it ended up being a bit of a disappointment for me. For whatever reason, the show didn't click the same. I'm glad they realized too and went full tilt into doing specials. It ending up being the best thing.
I'm disappointed we won't get to see these three all together again but it's nice to know each one has their own show(s) where their characters and personalities will continue. But it'll never be quite the same without the three all together. This series has had a lasting impression on me and I actually adopted the name "Captainslow" as my username for my online presence (I had it for CP before that account was banned for posting a link to Flames game that was being by Yahoo back when they were doing that).

Great stuff! Was an enjoyable show case of Zimbabwe, up there with any of their specials, they got to play their greatest hits, and it ended with an appropriate and satisfying conclusion.

I did like that they played up the fact that it was their last show.
"This is our last show so if you have any complaints....shove it!"
Ah...I'm definitely going to miss the boys. I've been watching them over half my life. I know they wanted to go out on their own terms, and I can respect that, but theres a part of me that just wishes...somewhere out of the blue, 5 years from now and new episode drops and they just got together and went on an adventure.
I'm glad they got to go down their own way, I'm just sad that its over.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
I hope they do. As I've said in a few posts now, I hope they just make the odd special here and there every few years. People would DEVOUR those and they'd make a killing.
Look at the Grand Tour as it is right now we get what, 2 episodes a year? If we're lucky?
I'd watch a special where the Russian Space Program sends these 3 to the Moon!

I'd watch them driving their favourite cars in safe European countries, staying in luxury hotels, and revisiting famous roads like the Stelvio Pass.

Exactly! And why not? We're here for the cars and the banter.
If someone told me I could get paid to do an all-expenses-paid trip to drive luxury cars through Europe, stay at luxury hotels and drive amazing places with my friends I'd be scrambling for a pen.
"Where do I sign up for this? Point me to where I need to go and lets do this!"
I doubt they will, largely because Clarkson is clearly ageing out and May wants to do his own thing.
But come on...it'd be awesome. 5 years down the road they decide on another road trip? Who wouldn't watch that?

I had trouble getting into a lot of the Top Gear/Grand Tour segments, with things like the car reviews and celebrities driving around a track not interesting me at all, but their travel segments and especially their specials are brilliant.
The combination of interesting destinations, the chemistry and humour of the hosts, and the engineering and logistical challenges all fit together perfectly. Somehow a bunch of gear heads made the best travel show ever.

Its wild right?
- May is the uptight one who loves History.
- Hammond cant eat anything but potatoes and by all indications hates to travel.
- Clarkson is the Orangutan.
Put them together though and they're magic.

I've been having a blast re-watching every episode of the 01+ series. Just up to season 9 now, which I'd easily call the start of the Top Gear golden age

Easily. Such good stuff. Its like 'comfort TV.'
I put old episodes on in the background as I work.
