I think a sports hernia surgery recovery time is only 6-12 weeks. If he is out for the season then there is certainly something greasy going on.

What is the circumventing? He can choose to have surgery whenever he wants. You gonna force him to get operated on at a certain time?

Kane having surgery just prior to training camp is about as surprising as a snowy day in Calgary. Somehow they will be able to drag his recovery out until the playoffs as the NHL has proven that they really don't care about salary cap circumvention.

Edmonton is naturally greasy.

It isn't a huge deal. He will be a couple weeks into recovery and back in November. With him coming back, they can't really bring in a bigger contract.

Will Kane take a home town discount on his surgery and doctors though? You know, like veterans do to help out.
I’m thinking Dr. Nick or dr Randy Gregg v global specialists

Point is why wait for surgery 4 to 5 months or so after the fact

It’s fine when the team decides this, but when the player does , ala Ryan Johansson they are aloud to terminate his contract. Doesn’t seem very fair.

You're a professional hockey player under contract and your season starts in October
Lmao
Yeah there's no timeline, just do it whenever!

But nobody can force him into a specific treatment path or timeline. A player may want to heal first to see if surgery isn’t required, there may be healing required before the surgery is required. There are a number of reasons that could dictate the timing that aren’t nefarious. The team owns your services not your body.
Sure, there’s a chance the oilers and Kane talked about it and said it would help the cap situation if he waits but even if they did the recovery isn’t a full year, unless something else is going on, so they’d still have to be compliant by December. Not sure what advantage they would gain here if it’s short term like that.

Word is Kane actually had the surgery already right after the playoffs ended and they're just pretending he hasn't yet so they can keep him out.

I predict a "setback" in his recovery/rehab will be announced at the end of October.

Yes they can. Insurance companies do it all the time.
"If you want to keep collecting Disability you must adhere to this accepted treatment at these required times."
The only difference would be if the team decided to ignore the insurance and pay for it all themselves.

No, that wasn't me. I was wearing my black skull shirt that I got at the pop-up store and my black and mustard color Metallica pirate skull hat that I bought off eBay probably 15-20 years ago.
One thing I was surprised with in Edmonton was how much Flames merchandise I saw for sale. I would have thought that would have been sparse.

So he decided to live with a painful injury the whole off season rather than get it dealt with right away for fun? Something fishy about that.

What are some examples when the league has actually punished for cap circumcision? I recall maybe one a while back but can't remember details.
