Watching that video of him is too much, not going follow this loser anymore until he's thrown in jail for (hopefully) a long time. What an absolute scum of the earth

In the MLB - P Jose Fernandez and RF Roberto Clemente both died in vehicular accidents during or just after their prime. Clemente made the Hall of Fame posthumously.
In the NFL - WR Chris Henry died in his prime after he fell out of a moving vehicle.
In the NBA - Center Jason Collier died in a prime season from the effects of a heart condition.

I get buzzed at least once every couple weeks biking to work, it's at 6AM so not too busy but a lot of drivers show zero respect. People going to work and supposedly sober but they still don't bother changing lanes and feel fine going 20 kph over the limit and coming within 1 foot of my elbow.
This is very high profile, it might just make a few people think twice.

The guy admitted to having had five or six beers before driving. Horrendous decision with horrendous consequences. That's a selfish, reckless, dangerous choice that has destroyed a family and left two kids without a dad, all for nothing. What a pointless waste of all their lives.

Your grief is your own, how you process this is your right and there shouldn’t be any shame around it being someone your not personal with.
Grief is powerful emotion and I would encourage (like others said prior) to use support channels like family and friends to talk through it. Try and understand it, as much as you can’t right now.
Last and most important. Let this be a positive reminder of the personal people in your life still here. Life is gone in an instant way too often. Its cliche but hug those close. They maybe gone tomorrow, and in sadness be greatful your loved ones (including pets!) are there to comfort. It is a wealth not afforded to everyone.

Thanks for sharing. It reminds me of Andrew Garfield talking about his mom passing
Quote:
“I love talking about her, by the way, so if I cry, it’s only a beautiful thing,” Garfield explained. “This is all the unexpressed love, the grief that will remain with us until we pass because we never get enough time with each other, no matter if someone lives till 60, 15, or 99.”
“So I hope this grief stays with me because it’s all the unexpressed love that I didn’t get to tell her,” he added. “And I told her every day. We all told her every day. She was the best of us.”

Clemente who died at a plane crash at 38, made me then think of Tim Horton (who for sure was not in his prime but was still an active and famous player) who died in a car accident at 44
also pondered Gehrig, very different at all levels of course. sadly had to bow out due to illness in his mid 30s (he had been a star player not long prior) but died a few years later

The worst day of my life was when I was 18 and my dad woke me up to tell me my mom had died. The 2nd worst day of my life was the funeral, with all the days in-between becoming an absolute blur. I can't imagine the grief that the Gaudreau's will be feeling having to bury 2 of their boys on the same day, it's complete nightmare fuel. The vindictive part of me almost wants someone to record the whole thing and feed it on a loop to the jail cell of the ####bag that killed them, make him experience the full weight of that trauma over and over again

He can access a phone. He just can't have a phone on him. He's complaining they took his cell phone. He's playing dumb IMO.

Absolutely devastated
.I followed John ever since the Flames drafted him in 2011. Watched him shine at every level as the naysayers kept saying he was too small to make it.
Absolutely feel for the Gaudreau family in this tragedy.
Make sure you teach your kids the dangers of driving while under the influence and distracted driving. What the Gaudreau family is going through right now could have been avoided.

Sean Higgins, 43, of Woodstown, New Jersey, was taken into custody on suspicion of being under the influence of alcohol, and police charged him with two counts of vehicular homicide, the state police said. He is currently in the Salem County Correctional Facility.
According to court records, Higgins told police that he had five to six beers before and while driving his vehicle prior to the crash.

Yeah, for a brief time both were in the organization. Johnny was pretty thrilled to have his brother in the fold.
Always admired how he pushed his also diminutive brother despite not having the same gifts or upside.
Matthew didn't do too badly either. Better than most that will play the game.

Never bike to the side of a lane, it is too dangerous.
Too many drivers drive vehicles that are too big for them, and they have no concept of where their vehicle is. If you are giving drivers enough space to try and squeeze past you in a lane, it is just a numbers game, someone will clip you. It is far safer to take the full lane and force drivers to pass properly instead of squeezing by.

Some drivers are going to buzz you regardless of the safe choices you make as a cyclist

Since you are in Oakland you know this but I would imagine many here don't - lane splitting is legal in California for motorcycles. It's the most dangerous thing I can imagine. They tend to hang out between the carpool lane and the #1 lane in traffic so I generally try to avoid using those lanes.

The video is a bit tamer than the description - I don't really see the big sigh and he wasn't acting like he was mad about the extended incarceration. Stunned more than anything. I suspect reality is gonna hit this dude hard.
But everyone should be preapred for this guy to get out on bail.

An ex-cop, with a huge rap sheet, going to jail for killing a star athlete. He might not survive 10+ years in prison. Part of me wouldn't be shocked if it he doesn't make it to prison in the first place.

Telling the cops you’ve had 5-6 beers is something you only do after you’ve had 10-12, because you think 5-6 sounds more reasonable.
They are going to make an example of this ‘man’.
