Really upsetting news... getting killed by a drunk driver makes it even worse. wish the media outlets would call that part out in their headlines. I hope that if nothing else this is used to raise awareness around drunk driving and saves somebody else down the line. Rip johnny

If any of the 800 people in the thread right now are drunk drivers I hope this is a ####ing wake up call.

Love to the Gaudreau family at this unimaginable time. Losing two children in this way is just so unbelievably sad and unfair.

The sad thing is this happens all the time. I was a witness to a drunk driving crash and seeing those families in court still sticks with me.
I don't know how you make people smarten up and stop drunk driving or just driving like idiots.

Condolences to the entire family. This one really hits hard.

Yeah. Driving aggressively in general isn't worth it. Intoxicated or not. If you take away the time to react with a risky maneuver, then that will be irrelevant.
And how much time are you saving really, a few minutes? Not worth it. It's worth thinking on.

Ryan Leslie's story on the Fan 960 - Johnny would continue to watch Flames games after going to Columbus. He would text Leslie to work in certain random words into his intermission speech - with a promise of a steak dinner if he did.
So he gave the word "popsicle" to Leslie - and Ryan said he said something like "Rasmus goes in and scores.. popsicles all around!" and immediately, Johnny texts Leslie to thank him.

Had an idea!

This is so sad. All Flames fans have a big connection to Johnny, going back to his college days.
His parents were so involved with his career as well, and his dad especially endeared himself to all Flames fans.
Words cannot explain what his parents are going through. Losing both sons, sister supposed to get married today. So sad.
How many more innocent people need to die because of drinking and driving? An act that is so easily avoided.

That pretty much confirms one of my suspicions that the players had a challenge for working in certain phrases into their interviews. Pucks in deep, "big two points" during the playoffs. What a guy

Devastated and numb. I feel awful for his family, the fans and I hope Sean Monohan is ok as well.
He brought the joy back after Iginla left and he brought me back to Flames hockey.

I agree. I don’t know this road - I looked it up and it’s a highway of sorts. But even when people have to go around me, there’s a clear view, they usually slow down, it’s not an issue. So even if that was in his head, you make sure you can do it safely.
Needless to say even if the guy was under the limit, having a drink or two in him would have made him less sharp.

My wife and I are once again reminded of how lucky we are. Our oldest son was t-boned by a drunk driver about 18 months ago. He wasn't hurt but the car was written off. Now we share the news with him that his hockey hero was killed by a drunk driver.
He would emulate Johnny's pre-game warm-ups by trying the same stick work, flipping the puck as high as he could and catching it. It's a hard day today
This is an exception to Bob Johnson's quote, it is not a good day for hockey.

I’m absolutely devastated. I could barely open my eyes a few minutes ago only to cry as soon as I saw confirmation.

For Hockey the closest I can think of off the top of my head was Pelle Lindbergh.
