You know that either pissy is not signing, or he has asked for waaaay more money than the Oilers want to pay. A deal would be done otherwise as the contract term must be max.
Now we are into the posturing and wishful thinking period.

Speaking of Hall, Oilers could really use an Adam Larsson type right now...

If I'm Draisaitl, I'm not signing any deal this year unless it is the biggest contract in NHL history by total dollar amount. Even if McDavid (or someone else) passed me later, I would get bragging rights for having broken the record at the time.

The PA has consistently acted like it didn't know this. I think the union bosses want the fat, high-profile contracts because the peons like to imagine themselves one day making that kind of bank.
The NHL minimum salary has been steadily decreasing as a percentage of the cap. The PA could have made an issue of that at any time, but they never did. Even the players making the minimum don't appear to care that much.
Basically, it's the same kind of foolishness as people in trailer parks buying lottery tickets.

Just when you think they've sobered up a bit GMs go crazy. All the cap going up does is make them look more foolish. Treliving looks top of the chart with that Tanev deal.

No matter what both players are getting massive raises
"take less to win the cup" They are 100% taking more than current and therefore the team will be worse than current teams that have won zero cups.

I seriously dont understand this line of thinking.
I can understand some players taking less with the understanding that it helps management having the ability to establish a winning team or supporting cast.
Because winning is fun! Even if you dont win it all.
But the theory is ridiculous.

But in Edmonton its not "take less to win", because the bulk of their roster is overpaid. Its we want "you" to take less, not everyone. We messed the cap up so badly by overpaying players (or buyouts) you have to take less to stay.
Plus the "examples" of guys taking less are for 100's of thousands, not millions and millions. None of the top players have taken less to stay in Edmonton. Plus, they way they manage the cap you know if they do take less they will just waste that money on someone like Nurse. Could you imagine taking less to get better players then they just throw it on overpaying some UFA that doesnt help you win?

At the same time it's not though. Paying 3 or 4 players over minimum loses you the beast. Players of age will take less to play in two roles. 1. Play with players on teams that have won. If I was Skinner I would of leaned towards Crosby or Mackinnon before McDavid. If those options weren't there due to financial constraints I would lean towards a Dallas or Rangers model. Jeff Skinner gets 3 million this year plus buyout money because he chose the powerplay minutes and the dollar. Can't blame him though. You come first. You've worked for this and it's your opportunity. When you're getting 7-11 minutes a game don't bitch. When you're sitting the last 5 minutes of a game you're down in, don't bitch. He had options but took the gamble. I can appreciate the gamble though. It's like, I haven't won so whats going to change in Edmonton.

For Draisaitl or McDavid to take less than market value is like just handing the money they deserve over to Nurse who took the Oilers to the cleaners. Given the number of times McDavid was caught on camera giving Nurse the stink eye after bad plays, I doubt that sounds like fun.

It's hilarious how idiots like Staples and many Oiler fans are calling it a Stanley Cup discount when they've never actually won it. They couldn't just call it a hometown discount. It has to be "Stanley Cup discount" because they're obviously the greatest team of destiny in the history of hockey, and the Cup should just be handed to them immediately because they're that good.
Idiots.

Abhorrent - A totally awful, horrible, smelly thing.
Aberration - Something out of the norm, not usual, strange.
Hmm.
I'll allow it.

It was an honest question since it's difficult to find evidence of something "not" happening.
There's only one pie. If Draisaitl or McDavid is getting a bigger piece of it, it will leave less for other players. What benefit does the NHLPA receive by promoting a higher salary for individual players? Why put effort (which is limited) into something that doesn't move the needle?

The Oilers Fans/Media, are piling on the pressure for this team. Every soft goal Skinner lets in takes them further from the cup.

LOL Seravalli saying this morning that the Oilers and Draisaitl negotiations aren't as close as he thought they were. Says he won't be taking a discount and that $14 million will be the starting point. This is what Frank gets for getting to chummy with Stauffer who's Katz's propaganda minister.
