That game is what makes baseball so unique and interesting. The athleticism, strategy, and execution on the mound and behind the plate was something else. It’s one v one and he just absolutely brought it. It also showed the heartache and cruelty of the sport. Just lost about 2mph on his fastball, it was in a great spot but the hitter beat him. Fraction of an inch different and it’s a deep flyball. Didn’t have an intention of watching a ball game today but that just reeled me in.

My boys and I picked a great weekend to fly to Toronto and catch some baseball. Last 2 games have been an absolute blast.

His underlying metrics have been pretty solid for quite a while now, but just wasn't getting the results.
Plus, I believe they tweaked his pitch usage a bit.

New splitter grip which made that pitch useful. So now he has an offspeed pitch that breaks away from lefties.

He’s really cut down on his curveball usage. It hasn’t been a great pitch for him this season.
I do think that he needs a decent third pitch in his repertoire to give him more options.

Are the Jays the most cursed team for finishing no hitters in the 9th? Took Dave Stieb until his 5th try to get their only one.
Having attended an 8 inning no hitter last year they are just the worst. Sat through 8 innings of nothing happening without the satisfaction of witnessing a great personal accomplishment.

Watching your team get no-hit has to be worse than that. My kids only Jays game in Toronto was when Verlander threw a no-hitter there for the Astros...

Oh no! That's brutal haha.
I feel like the Jays ratio of being no-hit versus throwing a no hitter has to be the worst in the league. They've only thrown 1 and been on the receiving end 8 times.

Question from left field. Why don't pitchers throw at different arm angles occasionally to throw off batters looking for the same release point? Pedro Martinez used to supposedly throw different pitches in different arm angles. But what I'm saying is if you don't have that talent, why don't you throw the occasional pitch by submarining? Or side arm? Just to change it up a bit.

Speculation only - it’s really really tough to do in reality as a significant change. Release points, grips, catcher placement all would change. Effective I would think but hard to do .

Oof. Ernie, you don't have to swing at absolutely everything. There were at least 4 more balls that AB if he didn't swing.

Unless you can throw multiple pitches out of multiple arm slots it's too much of a tell to hitters. Pitchers are trying to keep the arm angle and release point as similar as they can because it delays the point at which hitters can recognize what pitch is coming.

Apparently Cora is going to have Jansen as his catcher for the suspended game that resumes later today.
Game was suspended in the top of the 2nd with Jansen batting for Toronto with a 0-1 count. The Jays will replace him with a substitute player from their roster. Boston will put him in to sub for Reece Mcguire who was in the game but is no longer on the Red Sox roster and likely sitting in his car in a parking lot right now.
So Jansen would become the first player to play for both teams in an official game.
Jays had 4 guys in Jansen, Turner, IKF, Kiermeyer who are no longer on the team in the starting lineup plus Bo Bichette. Richard's and Garcia in the bullpen. So this lineup card will be HOF bound I think after the game.
