They have flashier forwards, but their team defense (both forwards and dmen) took a big hit this offseason and it already wasn't a strength.
As did their team speed, size, physicality, and PK. And they got older.

And their goaltending duo is Skinner / Pickard, which is going to be under MUCH more pressure this year.

Btw anyone who hasn't watched Jeff Skinner, he sucks hard nowadays. That signing is really puzzling, giving a one dimensional player at the back end of his career 3M when you already in cap hell. And he's never played in the playoffs, seems like the worst kind of type to acquire for a team that's all in.

Don't forget Landeskog, apparently he was going to make miraculous recovery from a surgery no one has ever come back from.

hfoilers fans want the Oilers to go and offer sheet around the league so they can "steal" cheap players and payback the Blues. Nevermind that there is not money even now.

They do realize that to do that you need to have your own draft picks, right? Of which the Oilers have, quite literally, none of for 2025? They can't make an offer sheet for more than $1.5 million, which I highly doubt a team wouldn't match on any player actually worth offer sheeting.

God, Oilers fans never cease to amaze me in how delusional they can be.

Crazy to think that 75% of the people on CP who voted in the poll were wrong.

Incredible work by Spector carrying water for the franchise but the threat of an offer sheet on Draisaitl made me chuckle

Quote:
There was also the possibility that matching these offer sheets could have left Edmonton vulnerable to offer sheets on Bouchard or Draisaitl, a factor that goes away with this added roster flexibility.
But there are a number of other highlights

Quote:
In short, Bowman chose $10 million in cap space over the three players — Ceci, Holloway and Broberg — and grabbed a couple of draft picks that will leave the Oilers with maximum flexibility at this season’s trade deadline.

Only 16% were completely wrong. A solid 73% correctly predicted that the Oilers wouldn't match Broberg. It was Holloway that took most people by surprise.

Not surprising at all. They don't care about any grit. It's all about fancy plays and goals for up north.

Lucky for them a lot of goals will be scored next season on them.

Not really wrong. The question was what do you think the Oilers will do. It's good that we don't think like them.

If cap flexibility at the TDL is the goal, then it's safe to assume that Kane is not going on LTIR.

Cap space is meaningless unless you have something to trade.

They can now start gutting their 2026 picks I guess for rentals.

Kane is an interesting issue.

He is under contract, i assume his injury is genuine.

But unless he wants to chain himself to the Edmonton Oilers, he needs a strong season of impressive numbers if he wants another contract and LTIR isn't going to do that for him.

There are Personal and Professional issues along with Cap compliance issues, it really depends on how he wants to play this.

Round and round and round the wheel goes, where it stops? Nobody knows!
