It's still some of the funniest #### ever.

Why would they leave? They just went to the finals and watcher Connor lead like a leader and never led.

You don't think he's getting paid by someone even if he blows out his knee or shoulder and plays only 25 games this year? Of course he is.

Trading him now would be the Oilers best move - eventually signing him might actually be the worst if the result is 8years x 15M.

I love how Josh Brown was a depth signing with his league worst advanced stats and now he's very likely going to be a mainstay in the Oilers top 6 for next season. You really can't make this stuff up.

LTIRing Kane, who was a no show in the playoffs but did help them in the regular season, and losing Holloway and Broberg for pretty much nothing, puts them at the possibility of not even making the playoffs.

Imagine Skinner also goes back to being garbage, I can't wait for a disastrous last season for McDavid where the Oilers just barely miss the playoffs and traded all their picks at the deadline trying to squeeze in.

I dont think it will be this drastic. Unfortunately for us all, the oilers will be annoyingly good next year...but then the decision they have to make this week will come into play. How do these signings affect the extra $$ they had earmarked for Drai, and if Drai leaves what does that do for McAvi?

every time i hear Kulak's name, it takes me back to the homer announcers during the playoffs talking about the "smooth skating Brett Kulak". such a legend

In that case, they can match the offer sheets on both players and then worry about trading someone before the season starts. They will still likely have to pay a high premium to take on one of Kulak or Ceci’s contracts but they wont be in as much of a panic to get it done in the next 7 days.

Yep, but can they keep Kane on LTIR the entire year? Sadly the league will allow it.

The standard operating procedure for this style of cap circumvention (Chicago, Vegas, Tampa, etc.) is to activate Kane when they have someone else to put on LTIR. RNH or Skinner or Henrique will come down with a case of “my back hurts” right around the time Kane is ready to come back. They come back from LTIR when they reach the playoffs or when someone else gets a case of “my tummy hurts”.

It would be funny for the league to begin enforcing it against the Oilers

I think it will take a player speaking up about it for it to finally be addressed. If a player came forward saying they were pressured to go on LTIR or delay a surgery to maximize the time on LTIR or weren’t allowed to come back to play when they were ready because the team wanted to wait to playoffs… it would likely finally open up an investigation against a team. It would likely lead to a slap on the wrist type of punishment… at most the loss of a 1st/2nd round pick.

I hope they match. It would seriously hurt their cap situation for next season and the season after when Drai and Bouch need new contract.

Both players are good bets to take flyers on but are not improving the Oilers next season - their last true season of contention.

To be that certain is a little weird. I mean a guess, sure, but I doubt anyone in the hockey world is connected enough to have a confident read on McDavid's intention this far out to the point of "he's 100% leaving".

I mean I could see him leaving, but I could easily see him signing the biggest contract in NHL history next summer, too. Like are you saying you have sources that know he's leaving ,or you're just that confident on gut that he's leaving?

Someone did speak up, I just can't remember who now.
