So that would need to happen first before they can match the offersheets? Assuming they want to match both.

I honestly think Draisaitl wants to try to win a cup one last season with McDavid, and then try to cash in as a UFA.
I think he will say a lot of the right things, but I doubt he really wants to lock himself into 8 more years in Edmonton.
And for the Oilers it's a bit of a tough scenario...trade him and your chances next season are a lot tougher, and if you have a bad season McDavid then becomes less likely to want to re-sign too.

He'd be insane to do that. One big injury and that's it. If his agents let him do that they should be fired.= immediately.

I have said it before and I will say it again, I am more certain than anything I have ever said on here that McDavid is 100% leaving at the end of this contract. Holland knew it and bailed, Draisaitl knows it and will probably bail too, he is gone.

So with these deals the oilers are going to be about 7.2 million over the cap, then have to try to scam the league with a Evander Kane long term injury, which would still leave them 2 million over the cap.
Am I reading that right?
So then they'd have to dump a defenseman and use a good asset to do it.
So, they'd lose their two best prospects which is devestating for them because they don't have a lot or any good prospects. for a 2nd and third pick.
Or they could match them, lose a defenseman, lose Kane for the year because they can't trade those two, and on top of that chew their finger nails in fear over what Draisaitl and Bouchard want.
Oh this is so glorious. The Oilers are so completely boned that its giving me tingly feelings all over.

The oilers would not have made the playoffs last year without that fluke streak. If over those 16 games they only played to their seasonal points % they would have missed the playoffs.

Don't think they can put Kane on LTIR until the season starts anyway, so they have to stay compliant right now.

Yep, that's my guess. That to match both offers.
They need to make cap room, prior to the decision if they choose to match

If the Oilers let them walk their team is going to be seriously old balls. The only players who are under 30 are:
- McDavid 27
- Draisaitl 28
- Nurse 29
- Bouchard 24
- Skinner 25
This is a team that is going to fall off a cliff very soon. With zero prospects in their pipeline they're going to be cellar dwellers for a long time.

In that case… please NHL GMs - show some sense and some class by putting that embarrassment Bowman’s feet to the fire in any trade that gives the Oilers cap space. No one take on Ceci or Kulak for anything less than an unprotected 1st round pick in 2026 - bare minimum. If they aren’t willing to pay that then they don’t get to keep Broberg and Holloway.

Watching the Oilers live has probably given Celeste some top tier acting lessons. She is definitely ready to make the jump from D level actress to the big time.

Just love the mess Holland leaves behind, the legend.
Even better is that they all praised and gobbled up Jeff Jackson for his work in free agency, signing all those old players.
Now scumbag Bowman in to make sure he sells guys for bit parts.

Outstanding job by the Blues. On paper, I think the Broberg deal is too rich and Holloway is about right or just a little high on salary. However, the coil need Broberg, and probably don’t need the forward with all the old guys they signed.
I think they have to let both walk and use the picks to help at the deadline or move an anchor out.

O.K. there has been a lot of talk on whether or not MacTavish has actually done a good job for us, most fans on this board are very basic in their analysis and I feel would change their opinion entirely if the team was successful.

Who will they trade.
The lineups and depth charts they posted everyone was untouchable. Kulak took huge steps, soon to be #2D. Ceci isn't so bad he is a top 4.
Arvidson? Brown? RNH? Perry? Kane? All junk.

I feel like if they match both then Drai is gone. I wonder if they have the balls to trade him

They can be 8.8 million over the cap until the season. If they match both players, they'll be 6.2 over.
Kane's LTIR will leave them at 1.1 over the cap though and still needing a 13th forward.
