He's a one-dimensional offensive winger, but that one dimension happens to be the hardest thing in hockey. 39 goals in 81 games his first season, 14 in 29 last season after being traded to Calgary.

When a guy can pot a goal every two games, he's worth a considerable amount, and you can overlook a lot of warts in his game.

That post was talking about the other deadline, that was the deadline when Bertuzzi was traded. Not sure why one would take the lower value trade for Tarasenko when you include a trade from the other deadline unless you were doing so to make a point.

Exactly this. None of the wingers that have been listed as examples of guys who have gone for the 2nd round range have shown an ability to score every second game for multiple years leading up to when they were traded. The only scoring winger who has put up those kind of numbers in multiple years leading up to when he was traded is Guentzel. Comparing guys who score 0.3 goals per game with a guy who scores 0.5 goals per game is not really a valid comparison imo. Totally different players. If Kuzmenko scores 28 in the first 60 games before a trade this year he will be 0.42 GPG over his last 3 seasons.

Only one of the list that is even close to that number over his previous 3 seasons before he was traded is Toffoli (0.37 GPG). Guentzel was 0.48 GPG. Every other winger he has been compared to was around or below 0.3 in the 3 previous seasons before the deadline trade (except Tarasenko who returned a 1st rounder).

A lot, but not all.

Just a guess, but I think he’ll have a career like Dadonov. A couple good seasons, a heater here and there, but seemingly always moving on or on the cheap.

Edit- I don’t mean that as a sleight. Dadonov is still playing at 35 on a good team. These types do fine in well fit insulated roles. Then some team thinks they can drive the bus and it goes in the ditch.

First of all, it ain't his fault he was taken 2nd overall.

Secondly, this has nothing to do with the argument of whether Kakko is/will be a good player.

It's relevant because the asking price is based on draft position and pedigree.

Not a trade rumour but a re-signing question.

Think Crosby signs tomorrow (8/7) for another 8.7?

Nope. He'll be an exception to the new necessity of locking up stars before heading into the final year of their contract. Team and player will be in lockstep with how they're proceeding into the future, imo.

Would you be happy with Kotkaniemi as the return for Kuzmenko? How about Luostarainen? I would be pretty underwhelmed by either as a return. Maybe I overvalue Kuzmenko.

Kakko - age 23, best season point pace: 40P, last season: 19P, Career: 0.39PPG.

Kotkaniemi - age 24, best season point pace: 43P, last season: 27P, Career: 0.40PPG.
Luostarainen - age 25, best season point pace 43P, last season 27P, Career 0.36PPG.
Parssinen - age 23, best season point pace: 46P*, last season 12P, Career: 0.42PPG.
Tomasino - age 23, best season point pace: 48P*, last season: 20P, Career: 0.47PPG.

* Not a full season.

PS: I think that the prices for rentals will go up this year. The main reason is the upcoming cap increase.

Again, not the argument I was making. I agree that NYR would use his draft position as leverage.

I like all of these guys, but I think I would require a pick of some kind to cone along with them, maybe including Kakko. I would jump for joy at Parssinen or Tomasino.

Phillip Tomasino is an RFA that hasn’t been signed yet. Right shot winger that can play centre. Has kind of fallen out of favour in Nashville. I think he’s a guy that can pop if given the opportunity. I wonder what their ask would be

I loved him in his draft year.

Crosby is eight goals away from 600 and four points away from 1600. Hard no idea he was putting up Rob Schremp numbers.

If he manages to accumulate 274 points over the next 3 seasons he might retire on 8/7/2027 with 1870 career points.

If he extends for another year today at 8.7 it won't surprise anyone.

Pretty sure this is just clickbait.

https://www.nhltraderumor.com/montre...-trade-rumors/

In theory it makes sense for the Flames:

Quote:
The Montreal Canadiens are actively exploring options to trade forward Josh Anderson, and recent rumors suggest a potential deal with the Calgary Flames. According to rumors, the Canadiens are offering sweeteners to entice the Flames into accepting Anderson’s hefty contract, valued at $5.5 million annually.
But the actual trade this guy is suggesting is just bad for the Flames:

Quote:
The potential trade involving the Calgary Flames would see Martin Pospisil heading to Montreal, alongside a 2026 fifth-round pick. Additionally, a 2025 third-round pick, and young prospects Sean Farrell and Jordan Harris are also part of the package offered to Calgary.
To give up Pospisil and a 5th for Anderson, a mid round pick, and a couple of B prospects seems counter intuitive for what the Flames are trying to do.

The return even makes no sense for Calgary, even taking Pospisil out of the deal I still say no. If they want to dump Anderson on us they can give us back the conditional first from the Monahan deal.

The guy seems to have lost all his credibility once he got into what the pieces may look like….. the organization is very high on Pospisil. The only way he is involved in a trade is part of a package to bring in a young star.

If Flames take on Anderson, there is no way Craig isn’t asking (and getting) our conditional 1st back along with another piece.
