I do think they may have a diamond in the rough in Miromanov but the rest of the back end is pretty rough. And those guys will have to play 30 minutes a night.

Team is set up nicely for a top 5 pick this year, which is great for the rebuild. I love the sequencing, getting the backend sorted out first and presumably spending at least 3 of the next 4 first round picks on forwards.
Plus, If Andersson gets moved....

Totally agree. He's had moments where looks really good.

Back up goalies are hard to judge. They are almost always coming in cold and don't often get stretches of games to work it out, or they are coming into a game in relief of a starter because the team is already getting owned.

I would love to see him get long look to see if he can get into a rhythm. The Flames have the luxury to do that next season because there's nothing to lose.

The rating specifically had the Flames' present goaltenders ranked #20 (which I think is too generous, but the guy really really likes Wolf). Nobody has said they would be top 5.

My lovely brain thought depression was a fallacy until it smacked me in the face the last 2 years with family dropping left right and centre.

Laine gonna kill it (50+ goal season if he's fully healthy and in-the-moment for his new team) once he's in a better place & environment.

Life B hard, no matter how top of your field you are

There was another Finnish guy who came into the league as a Jet, went through some down years than re-emerged in Anaheim as one of the more dangerous scorers again. I might prefer for the Flames that Laine don't go to the Ducks. But that might be a good fit for him on a personal level.

Yes, I totally feel this way. I remember reading the hype when Treliving first acquired him, but feel like each year, he's never really been able to show his potential for a variety of reasons.

I thought Bean was supposed to be a replacement for Kylington?

But yeah, I agree with you, Calgary's D is atrocious.

Everyone knows what Vladar was. Which is what he is unless he changes. Below average backup that has never played well for more than a few games in a row.

Because players never change and never raise their game to the next level.

Vladar has always shown the potential to be better. So far it hasn't happened, but now he is healthy and he is going to get the opportunity. Let's wait and see how it plays out before we label him.

He's gotten worse every year. Believe what you want though.

Any chance the Flames get up to anything before September?

I'd imagine we'll see some RFA contracts signed.

But unless someone makes an offer for Rasmus or Coleman, I don't think we see the Flames making any trades before camps get going and teams figure out if they have any shortcomings or expendable players due to rookies shining in camp.

I don't buy that. He either A) had some injury problems or B) got shafted a bit because Sutter was trying to play Markstorm out of his slump, even though the team seemed to get better results and play more confident in front of Vladar.

This year will be telling if he can stay healthy.

I was not a big supporter of Vladar, but I hadn't realized he was injured the last few years.

So, I am willing to withhold judgement until he gets another chance.

What you believe and what the stats show are very different things . Every statistic shows he’s gotten worse

Injury problems easily could be the reason he has gotten worse, but it doesn’t change the fact he has

This doesn’t mean 100% Vladar is done - but there are lots of goalies who similarly never become more then an average backup and are out of the league once they get older as the “potential” fades

Kylington is bottom pairing unless paired with Tanev.

The Flames weren't deep enough or talented enough to support/utilize Sam Bennett properly at the time, that's why he failed here. What we needed was the more talented Sam Reinhart who could've weathered the storm better and ultimately not be a pseudo-victim of the expansion draft.

We ran out of time with Bennett, that's what happened. He was unhappy here, we were unhappy with him and perhaps in the alternate timeline, it would've been the Flames acquiring Sam Bennett from the Sabres for pennies on the dollar for our playoff run.

Lastly, Barkov is an elite hockey player. He plays the game the right way, he can skate, big body, has a ton of tools + the toolbox. He would've figured it out here and or anywhere for that matter.

A )if injuries are making him worse that's a negative against him.
B) your example simply shows that he's mentally weak and unable to perform, despite playing behind a solid defence when Sutter was here, he put up below average stats.

We can’t really dwell on that tho.

Bennett was the #1 rated prospect for the longest time heading into the draft. Everyone was ecstatic to get him.

Monny and Bennett terrorizing the Oilers as our 1-2 punch.

The Flames have done everything to suck next season and I believe in Conroy that he’s going to get this thing turned around.
