I don't get it, why would Pissy sign a 4 years deal? This is his retirement contract, why just sign 4 years? What is he get a career ending injury? If his agent talks him into signing that contract, that agent should be fired.

I doubt he would, I could see him signing a 1 year extension at a discount so he can be with Connor and see if they can win a cup together and have them both as UFA's at the same time.

Edmonton media has their orders to fire off as many rumors as possible to distract from the Bowman fiasco that was more unexpected a response than they thought.
Whatever happened to Keith Gretzky, who has the same media pump his tires a few years back for a few weeks as the heir apparent to Holland? Clearly was an ego stroking exercise to get him to stay, the Oilers have always been good at that.

honestly we are better off if they stay...they aren't getting better and they already have trouble getting under the cap. Sign the 3 rumored deals and the Oilers have no shot after this season.

I agree. But I’d love to see their fanbase completely heart broken because they lost their two stars

Id honestly be surprised if they traded him. Even if he told them tomorrow that he won’t re-sign with them. They’re going for it this season, they know their window is slamming shut if him or McDavid leave

They should have traded him before July 1st. They would have gotten a huge haul. Probably a blue chip prospect, a 1st rounder or two, and a decent roster player. Then they could have targeted someone like Stamkos, Marchessault, Guentzel, DeBrusk, Montour, Skjei... or whatever. I know some of those guys wouldn't be guaranteed to sign with the Oilers, but I am sure some could be lured given their SCF finish and a chance to pad their stats with McDavid.

I think the Oilers know that if they deal Draisaitl, McDavid is as good as gone. He’s such a baby that he’d pout if they traded his best buddy. Rumours at the trade deadline were that the Oilers were about to make a trade that included Ceci being dealt and McDavid stepped in and said no because he wanted to win with his buddy (Ceci).
Im of the opinion, conspiracy or not, that McDavid has the final say on moves. I highly, HIGHLY doubt that he would be okay with the Oilers trading away his best friend

oh I'm not saying it will happen...just that they would actually be better for it
if they give those 3 the rumored contracts they will be the Hawks without the 3 cups

Nope. It would screw us hard.
McDavid is a good player. Now. But what have we learned about giving out retirement contracts?

Last year it was rumoured that McDavid insisted that Foegele not be traded for clap space as well because they were pretty close. It makes it even funnier that he just walked away in free agency.

This deal (4 years) makes zero sense for Draisaitl, as that would be his 30-33 years, meaning signing a deal for 34 and beyond would entail taking a lower number. So you only do that if you are getting MORE for these 4 years (to make up for the likely-to-be lower numbers later). But this deal suggests a discounted number, for a lower term.
Zero chance.
Why would you sign 4 X $13.5 instead of 8 X $14+, when you KNOW there would be a 7 X $14.5-15M available if the Oilers won't go 8 years?

If you're Leon Draisaitl you will need to know what Connor McDavid is going to do. If you're not playing on the same team as McDavid do you want to be playing for the Oilers? Even if the Oilers trade McDavid and get a decent return, it is going to be lots of picks and top prospects. Draisaitl doesn't have as much time to win a cup anymore. He can't afford to wait to see if those picks and prospects build another cup contender.
Leon and Connor are close enough to have a solid idea of what each other are planning to do. It would be truly baffling if Leon signed long term in Edmonton and then Connor left. Either that or Connor lied to Leon. Leon will not stay in Edmonton unless Connor is 100% guaranteed to stay too. How can they keep both and still build a strong contender? It isn't impossible but it nearly is for this organization.

oh i think we all know how development goes in edmonton!
