It's two years away and the cap is likely going to increase year to year. There will be plenty of teams that would find a way to fit in McDavid at $15 million per season.

According to Spotrac, with a $92 million cap, 29 teams currently have more than $30 million in cap space. NJD and Colorado are 30th and 31st will have over $28 million. 14 teams will have more than $50 million in cap space and 7 have more than $60 million. Obviously contracts signed between now and then drop that significantly, but pretty much any team can build around McDavid's eventual cap hit, if they wanted to.

Just a feeling? Or something you know is pretty certain

The CBA expires when he becomes a UFA. You have to think length on deals will be shortened.

I think that was largely down to Skinner having another decent year, with a side of Ekholm shoring up the D. McDavid was no different than any other year.

Yeah, Tavares will not be back unless it's at a deep discount and they will trade Marner for cap space. They will also trade off McCabe, Jarnkrok, etc.
The Tanev contract puts a small dent in the plans though.
You know who else could manage it - Vegas. Eichel is a UFA at the same time, Theodore a year earlier, and they will shed McNabb. Plus Stone will go on LTIR (and only has a year left at that point).
Chicago could make a play. So could Boston.

There are tons of teams and Oilers fans think they will take a discount to win in Edmonton are out to lunch. There will be tons after him and Mcdavid could take a discount and win way more elsewhere. He might not have to take a discount to win on some teams.
If I was McDavid, I'd sign on a big market team that is loaded with assets

It's best for teh NHL that he goes to a large market team.
Chicago, LA, New York or Toronto.

We all hate on Mavi in this thread but is there a team out there that wouldn’t shed cap expense to get Mavi onboard? If they walk either of the giitter twins to UFA, it’s going to be a maximum contract of 7 years and whatever the money is. And if you are Mavi or pissy, don’t you kinda know that already? So why would you accept a discount?

You can probably pay McDavid the max, because you can slap a grinder like Hyman on his line and hes tapping in 50 goals.

McDavid's agent is going to be watching next off season with a greedy look on his face as he watches teams open cap space, then he will tell the Connor that under no circumstances are you agreeing to a contract because your going to set a record for pay and go where you want to go. You like the beach, the big city, the mountains, 29 other markets that don't smell like cowdung and incest.

And Bouchard will be next. No money for McDavid.
Draisaitl can rot in Edmonton

That's Stauffer, I think it's wishful thinking. Matheson is reporting it's a 4 year deal and will be announced tmrw. We will see.

Yeah, I saw fans talking $13M on twitter but it seems like it’s all stemming from Stauffer, who is trying to conjure it.
