Would you also try to apply this kind of reasoning to John Hinkley Jr? I suspect he was mentally unwell.

I kinda wonder if some tinfoil hat wearing MAGA takes a shot at Biden thinking it's an eye for an eye.

All of that is awful and should be denounced, and is on Facebook. Look what democratic leadership is doing and saying, compare that to Trump joking about Pelosis husband being attacked and you just might see a difference.

BUTLER, Pa. — Patty Harnish hasn’t cast a vote in 28 years — not since backing Bill Clinton’s reelection in the 1990s. But now?
“It’s Trump,” said the Dollar General sales associate, 58. “I look at him, and I feel proud.”
She held up the morning paper. There was Donald Trump on the front page, blood streaking his face, fist raised in the air.
“He’s like: ‘Screw you. I can’t be stopped. I still have another ear,’” she said Sunday as customers trickled into the store a few miles from where bullets flew at the former president.
She’d been surprised by the heft of her emotions, she said, after feeling so disconnected from politicians for decades. In her opinion, no one in Washington was doing enough about rising food and gas prices, soaring rent and opioid overdoses.

Yeah. It’s the exact image they needed to contrast against a weak Biden unfortunately

Project 2025 leader said a week ago, “We are in the midst of a second revolution, one that will be bloodless if the left allows it”
Seems like he got his answer, regardless if the shooter is Republican or not

Before getting all up in our britches, lets remember who Donald Trump is here, and what he has advocated. Gun control? Ha! He incited a violent insurrection of their capital to hold on to power and supported the demands for Pence to be hung. He endorsed political violence to hold on to power. And now someone took a shot at him. Well look, Donald, this is the game you want to play? Here it is. Enjoy dodging bullets, I guess. But I'm not going to pretend that he hasn't stoked this. Blaming people on social media for jumping in is pretty weak sauce when you have this goof saying he could shoot someone in the street and not lose support. The whole country is a ####ing disaster, but lets not pretend this isn't the chicken coming home here. What do they say? Play stupid games, win stupid prizes. He's just incredibly lucky he's still around to keep the game going.

They are - but it also does help show the kind of people and why they vote the way they do
This is a 58 year old working in a dollar general . Although almost certainly the dems are better for their personal wellbeing , this person feels completely disenfranchised with the current batch of politicians and resonates with a picture of a powerful politician fighting again what they perceive as the status quo
As I’ve said many time on this board - most people aren’t spending hours a day obsessed with Twitter and Facebook and reading every article and understanding and reviewing every policy and potential impacts . Most of them just know their lives have gotten worse over the last few years with inflation and leaving a pandemic and need someone to blame / someone to offer solutions
Donald Trump resonates with these people like it or not . And that picture now seals the deal . It is a very powerful image for people who want a strong leader to fight “against” a system that has failed them in their eyes (Even though they are usually voting against their own micro self interests)

Presidential hopeful Donald Trump, convicted felon, likely rapist and pedophile, frequent provocateur and inciter of violence, shot at by unhinged gun nut in a fractured America that he more than anyone else has helped create.
I'm not usually for victim blaming, but in this instance, hard to feel for the victim.
Hopefully no more violence, but this is Donald Trump's America, after all.
(I should say that I do have empathy for the bystanders who were shot/killed - they aren't responsible for Donald Trump's America.)

Do you have any proof of Trump inciting violence on Jan 6th? or do you just take what you heard online or from the news as facts?

Add to the fact his continual lies that he won and the election was stolen was absolute fuel to the conspiracy minded individuals out there. Do I think he thought it might happen the way it did? Not sure. But make no mistake if he does what every other candidate has done in history, which is congratulate Biden, concede and move forward Jan 6 does not happen. That is irrefutable.

Trump did not speak to Pence during the riot, even after learning that the Secret Service had ushered him to a secure location under the Capitol plaza. Their last call came at 11:20 that morning, when Trump urged Pence to refuse to count Biden’s electors and Pence subsequently declined.
Trump publicly expressed outrage at Pence during the riot via a 2:24 p.m. tweet.
“Mike Pence didn’t have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution,” he said, igniting a fresh wave of anger among the crowd that had breached the Capitol.
Trump’s tweet arrived 10 minutes after rioters had first broken into the Capitol through a Senate-wing window, and it was posted four minutes before Pence arrived at the secure Capitol location where he holed up with his security team for hours.
