To me, "minors" means the league to which a player is eligible to be sent down.

That's not how the word is used in the context of professional hockey. Ba'alzamon is correct.

Though Parekh was dominant offensively, it sounds like there is a lot of room for improvement for his defensive side of the game.
The OHL would be a good place to work on that. The NHL may crush his confidence which doesn't help development.

I didn’t watch today, but I’ve seen Parekh a decent amount living in Ontario. People saying he has nothing left to prove in the O need to realize that his defensive game needs a lot of work. Which is totally fine, but I think it’s the wrong decision to have him learn that part of his game in the NHL. Send him back to the Ontario league and tell him to work on his defensive game. His hockey IQ is off the charts, I’m not worried about him making that adjustment. I just think the NHL is the wrong place for him to do that.

You don't need a defensive game to play in the NHL. Evan Bouchard just proved that this year.
The only question is if Parekh is physically developed enough to handle an NHL forecheck. I wouldn't want to Justin Schultz Circa YEG him into losing his confidence if the physical toll is too much. But I do think overcooking is artificial and with teammates like Weegar, Backlund, Zary, Coleman, Sharangovich and Kadri he would still be well supported on his side of the red line.
If he earns a spot, it should be his. Period. He can learn to defend just as well with Connor McDavid or Nathan MacKinnon flying through the middle as he would going through the motions in junior.

FYI. Despite what the schedule says, Saturday's scrimmage starts at 10, not 10:30. Plan accordingly!

For most people that height, that’s just called “being 19”. He will bulk up with time.

You don’t think the Calgary Flames prefer Parekh to learn the defensive side of the game? I guarantee that they do. Evan Bouchard is completely lost in his own zone, is that ideal? Of course it isn’t. You’d prefer an all situations guy over a pure offensive guy if you had a choice

100% agree. Following the Oilers development plan is not smart at all .

You don't think Parekh can still learn the defensive side of the game against the top offensive players in the world?

I get the war wounds from those that felt Sutter held prospects back, his mind games with Pelletier were insane.
But the other side of the argument does exist.
Some NHL teams promote players too quickly and with that stunt the growth of some players. We make fun of Edmonton for doing it all the time.
Monahan made the team. There was little doubt.
Tkachuk made the team. There was little doubt.
Bennett needed more time after his great playoff contribution.
Parekh is a gifted player, he could make the jump on skill, but he plays a tougher position, one that takes more time to develop generally.
The tie doesn't go to the runner.

Didn’t Bouchard go back to Jr, and play in the AHL?

Does any 18 year old defender "Learn" in the NHL. The NHL isn't a development league. It never has been.
He has a long way to go before he should be playing in the NHL.

Taking a while to get to 5000

Noah Hanifin jumped right in and never really looked like the player people expected until this past year.
Let Parekh play in the OHL, then the A, then the show. Flames aren't going anywhere for 3 years or so anyway.

I think ZP could make the team and pay 12 minutes a night + PP time in NHL. Call it 15 sheltered minutes per game. Is that better for his development than playing 20-25 mins a night in the OHL?
1) you get to be around pros and practice with the NHL team that includes Weager, Rasmus, Backlund, Kadri
2) You get reps in vs more skilled players
3) He can play with a partner that shelters him

[QUOTE=GranteedEV;9146637]You don't need a defensive game to play in the NHL. Evan Bouchard just proved that this year.
Bouchard was successful this year because he played beside Elkholm. Its not like his defensive game suddenly improved.
