I'm not really buying that GOP's are strategic masterminds that have a blue print that could be copied. They got lucky in 2016, lucky that they got to replace 3 SC judges during the window they had the white house and then lost all the houses in 2020.

No one in the GOP wanted Trump as their guy in 2016. He surprised everyone by having a message that resonated through the rust belt.

RBG not resigning, and trying to force Clinton in as the one were the two things the Democrats had some control of that could have saved the court.

At this time in the 2020 election cycle, the GOP was about as excited having Trump as their candidate as the DNC is now. The GOP didn't do anything about it and had actual mechanisms to do it through the impeachment hearing.

I completely agree with this,

In reality, even with the current Biden issues he still probably has between a 25-40% chance of beating Trump. And any Biden replacement is probably at least 50-50.

The GOP is in a situation where if they had just impeached they would be approaching a 90% chance of winning with whoever they put in front of the electorate, and the Dems wouldn't even be contemplating pulling Biden out, they would just be accepting the loss. The are so strategically bankrupt that they think their base in control just because they keep voting for Trump, and they didn't realize that by just disqualifying Trump they could push their base into voting for somebody, anybody else.

I think Biden wins because enough Americans will come to their senses election day and will do the right thing to swing this thing once they realize they’ll lose their country if TFG wins. I don’t believe these bs polls. I know someone will say I’m giving American voters too much credit. I’m not referring to MAGAts; there is no hope for them. I’m referring to undecideds and this who don’t normally vote.

Waiting to see how the 'defending systemically underprivileged' vs. 'racist', is going to play out. Let's get a citation from each side.

If the Democrats ran Michelle Obama, it would basically "confirm" all conspiracy theories about the new world order that the right has been farming among their braindead supporters. It would be a million times worse than Hillary, and she would still have to battle the same identity problems that Kamala would.

Whoever rationally presented that idea, if anyone from within the party, should be taken out back and shot immediately.

Run Newsome or Harris.

Franken is 73. Could we find a non-septuagenarian candidate maybe?

Because GOP voters only care about themselves. They'll happily sell the rights of women and minorities down the river if it means an extra few dollars in their bank accounts.

It's much easier to appeal to a group that is collectively self-interested than a plurality of voters with competing interests.

I don't know how you could get past the optics of essentially replacing a black woman with a white woman. Especially since you'd have to ditch Harris as VP candidate.

That just seems like too big of an FU to the black population and would probably backfire if they lost their support.

I think Harris is probably the only path forward with a hope you can make her more likeable. To keep her as VP, it's hard to see how anyone but a white male (and one not from California) makes sense. A black male or female at the top of the ticket could work too, but then they'd have to ditch Harris. It does suck to have to view things that way, but it's an awkward situation when they basically have to appoint a replacement.
