Didn't you read the latest Oiler propaganda FB? Apparently he wanted to go accept the award, but his teammates were sad and he is such a good leader that he couldn't abandon them in their time of need.
JFC I can't believe Oiler fans actually believe and buy into that BS.

After FA day today I was looking at some cap issues with several teams. The Oilers still have $5.7M left but only have 18/23 positions signed. They have 2 interesting RFA contracts to negotiate Holloway/Broberg that should probably eat up most of that, unless they play hardball and give them minimum raises (even though they were 2 of the better players during the PO's).
Hopefully they end up with the same situation that Bouchard has them in, forced to take a bridge deal, totally blow up and play great, then cause the Oil more issues in a couple years. Never change Oilers.

So who takes Kane’s contract after the Skinner contract? Or is it a buyout option for them? I don’t think many teams would want to take him. The oilers would likely have to give up a 2nd round pick or more to get someone to take his contract.
They have really left themselves exposed to offer sheets for Broberg and/or Holloway. Of course, those players have to want to sign offer sheets and other teams have to have the guts to put the oilers in a tough spot… so it might not be a real problem.

My guess is the Oilers are playing the arbitration game with Broberg and or Holloway which would open up an additional buyout window to buy out Kane.

Neither are eligible.
It looks like some guy named Raphael Lavoie is the only arbitration eligible player they have.

And he can torpedo that by just accepting his QO.

It’s the Oilers, you don’t think there’s a side deal.

Sounds like they re-upped Janmark in addition to Skinner, Brown x 2 & Perry. Offer sheet Broberg tomorrow for like 5 x 4.0M & flip the Oilers the 2nd round pick or watch them try to make panic deals to attempt to match.

Go to arbitration and at start of season will sign you to a larger extension for following year.

Nobody in hockey is going to trust a promise like that from the Oilers. We all know what their word is worth.

Maybe they'll do the Mike Smith Special: LTIRetire someone who was healthy enough to play in the playoffs but not healthy enough to continue their career.

They will buyout Kane and trade Ceci. Will bring back Desharnais, sign Broberg and Holloway and likely have cash to bring in a veteran dman. All this while still keeping $1MM aside for the mid season Carter Hart signing.

Joshua Brown (no clue this guy existed) is somehow analytically the worst player in ther NHL and the Oilers are paying him 3x1m hahah

Desharnais is gone. I see them getting rid of Kane, Ceci and also Mcleod. Agree with everything else though.
