To do what? Get the 7th pick instead of the 3rd?

The goal has to be to keep Montreal from getting a high draft pick.

Exactly. We don’t need a good defense in 2025.

Really too bad. Hard not to interpret this as a guy who got terrible advice from his agent and put $ over fit only to get neither. Good on Conroy for holding the line.

Maybe he just isn't sure if or where (north America or Europe) he wants to play at all

He barely played the last two seasons, not sure what they were thinking asking for a raise.

You have to think that Conroy would have traded him at the deadline if he thought this was a real possibility. Or maybe he was just being a good human and now potentially losing an asset for nothing. Hopefully he still re-signs for a year or two.

This really sucks. He was a feel good story in a crap year for the Flames. Then he walks for nothing when we have tons of cap space and we’re very thin on defence. He’ll likely go somewhere else and play well. Doesn’t make sense.

I am guessing Kylington will end up signing a 1 year contract close to league minimum. Probably doesn't neer this with his mental health concerns but doesn't sound like a great decision.
It can still turn around though. Some team may give him a great offer after striking out today. That would be nice.

I think we’ve seen his ceiling. I’m ok with moving on.

His value on the trade market would have been the same as it is today. Next to nothing.

So give him whatever he wants? Conroy made him a fair offer (his words) he didnt take it. Even just renewing his previous contract would have been more than fair.
The days of players running the team are over, ask Lindholm...how about that 9x8 he wanted.
