Interesting tidbit, looking back at some draft rankings, the Flames came out of this draft with four of Scott Wheeler’s top 32. Parekh, Grindin, Basha, Mews.

This could easily turn into an A+ for me if Conroy goes out and hires that spiritual healer as a special adviser to the GM.

I’m thinking free agency is going to answer a lot of questions. Feels like some more shoes are going to drop. We have too much cap space for them not to.
Weak draft for top end centers. Pick those next year when realistically the team will have really high draft picks...

Yeah, the early list for next year's draft has 4 Cs in the top 5. Some really good ones. Next year is the year to really tank.

This was a draft for Ds, and next year is a draft for Cs.

Perfect!

Having said that, I agree Ozy, the next target should be to acquire a young C in this year's trades of veterans.

Five in Wheeler's top 50 and six in Wheeler's top 100.

Parekh (#5)
Gridin (#38)
Basha (#29)
Battaglia (#83)
Mews (#26)
Misa (#50)

And I have a feeling Battaglia is going to be a riser next year when looking at his second half OHL production this year

And if you go by Bob Mckenzie's list

Parekh - 8
Basha - 30
Gridin - 37
Mews - 48
Battaglia - 57
Misa - 72

That's tidy work.

Years ago I wrote an article for the forecaster, and at that time (guessing 95-05 drafts) teams that took a consensus player that was falling did poorly vs teams that went off the board.

That's my one fear on this draft ... felt too popular for the masses.

Hoping and honestly assuming that it wasn't for show and they were keeping to their list and it just fell that way though.

Yeah, I lean towards reaching vs fallers too, generally.

Not worried about it this draft though, as the entire draft seemed to be in flux

The big fallers were well down the draft, I doubt those will become anything
I dont consider their top 3 picks fallers

Also, Miso fell so far (30something to 150 or whatever) that, at some point, you have to say it's worth a shot

Seeing how well some heavier forwards with skating and some skill did in the playoffs like Joshua and Frederic, I was hoping for a couple of those. But looking at other teams I hardly see any big lug (not goons but north south that can skate) types in later rounds.

Anyone else notice this?

With 8 Canadians drafted, 7 are eligible for Team Canada at the World Jrs. this year. How many can we expect to make the team?

Tod Button has said time and time again the Flames have their list and they work it, outside of that they'll pick spots where they can grab players an area scout might be really pushing for or when it's time to take a goalie. This whole riser and faller thing isn't an issue.

That Misa pick could be something special.

The Flames choosing Parekh over Buium was exactly what I was hoping for given the risk associated with Buium being in the US college system.

What are the possible reasons Buium dropped as far as he did?

Senneke and then the run on FW when everybody and their dogs thought it would be a run on D

That theme was certainly unexpected.
