I'm generally a pretty optimistic person, and the draft looks solid vs consensus rankings for sure.
I do get a little worried when teams take too many falling players though.
That's why I like the Gridin pick before Basha. They went off their list and not the consensus and then still got a player that was supposed to go in the first round with the 41st pick.
My gut says they didn't drop their list and go with falling players though, that doesn't seem to be the make up.
Just landed where it landed.
Parekh is a huge pick ... never imagined him landing in the 9 spot. I thought the big eight would be gone, and instead they had two of the eight to choose from.
Iginla would have been an amazing story, but having him picked before releases the team from the comparisons.
Parekh looks like a video game.
I never thought Yakemchuk would be picked before Parekh! Two guys I really wanted, but Yakemchuk was going to be my Plan C if Plan A (Iggy) and Plan B (Parekh) were off the table.
Looks like I had the right table, just the wrong letters lol.
Love the draft but Moreso love what it represents in terms of the new approach for the club
This is what takes it from an A to an A+ for me. Made high skill selections when they were there, accurately gauged fallers and traded down to get value, and made some picks that were off the board but low-risk. Didn’t love the guy they got at 28 but then got a 1st round talent in the second that made up for it.
Excited to see what Conroy and the scouting staff can pull off with an even better draft position in 25 and 26. They couldn’t have done much better this year with what they had. No obvious “wtf” picks like Mason MacDonald or Hunter Smith or Mark Jankowski with better players right there.
I’m far too lazy to do it, but I’d love to see +/- of picks as compared to rankings, like CBSSports does for fantasy football. I’m guessing Flames’ would be pretty high in the positives.
I.e. Parekh ranked 5 goes 9 = +4

The trouble with that is going off the board once skewers your whole score.
Tij getting drafted before us may be a huge blessing in disguise. I hope he has a great career, but the name aside, I would rather draft potential elite dmen and centers than wingers in the top 10.
The draft went about as well as anyone could have expected. 10 picks, plenty of chances for players to break through and become good players for us.

It doesn't skewer the score at all. It helps narrow down the teams that draft the status quo vs those that do their own thing. It's all valid data, and it's all a valid representation when compared to the other teams.
Picking Jankowski in the first round absolutely should be represented in the final score (for example).
Went A, thought long and hard about A+. Got a top prospect, 5 legitimate prospects with potential to be in the top half of the roster, 3 projects and a goalie. Would have pushed it to an A+ if they addressed the organizational need for high end centers, maybe that's too much to ask though.

That should be weighted by round somehow. If you get #3 at #6 (M. Tkachuk, eg) that is way more impactful than getting #100 for the #103 pick.

But the first round is going to have small numbers, and the later rounds are going to have huge numbers.
So imagine a very normal situation where you did well in the 1st, and were +4, and in the 5th, drafted someone you like that was -20? Is that a #### draft?
Who cares if you go off the board in the 6th round
I would have liked to see the Flames be a bit more creative with all of the picks they had to make a move or two. I would have also liked to see a bit of movement on the roster. But in terms of who they picked up, I am pretty happy with it. I gave them ak A minus.
"...once it kinda started playing out, it was looking for a minute like we were getting a forward... and then all of a sudden it transitioned into getting a defenceman. But it was getting a defenceman that is like a forward, with Zayne..."
So, did Connie just confirm there that we were drafting Iggy until Utah stole him?
