Y’all are sleeping on Battaglia. Very excited about getting him. Mews and Misa were huge shockers
Grade: A

Thanks cral12 and Sandman for answering my ill-informed questions about the draft all season! First thing I do when the Flames make a pick is make a beeline for the writeup.

No complaints rounds 1-3, but think they could have done more with rounds 4-7. Still many intriguing prospects in the later rounds. Oh well.

What could they have done in round 4-7
They got a steal in Misa and an interesting goalie

I was very pleased with the draft.
Basically picked up 3 first rounders and a few other sleeper picks. Great start to the off-season with the 2 trades and FA. Keep it going now.

Amazing draft. Perekh has the potential to be a franchise-changing defenseman. Loved the value getting Basha, Mews and Misa where we did.
I give it a solid A.

Yeah, they seem to be really focusing on skill and scoring more than ever. Really swinging for the fences and not going for "safe" picks, which is the way I think it should be done.
If you told me before the draft that it would go like this:
9 - Parekh
28 - Basha or Mews
41 - Gridin or Misa
62 - Battaglia
I would have been thrilled. The fact we we walk away with all 6, not necessarily in the order epected, is amazing to me.
No offense to the other 4 players drafted by the Flames. I just don't know anything about them.

Very good draft. "A" grade from me. Wish they had grabbed few different guys on the back half but otherwise Very pleased.
I have a much better 1st impression of this class then the last.

Things i didnt like:
Missed on a pile of my hopefuls: beaudoin, letourneau, miettinen, hage, brunicke, stiga to name a few. However the run on centers in the twenties wasn’t something we could control and the prices to move up in this supposedly mediocre draft were pretty high. Not on conroy.
Unfortunately some of the same old same old showed up, considering we grabbed parehk news we tried to move up supposedly for iginla are concerning, however not sold on a possible rumour as i think they thought they had a shot at demidov which i would have been ok with. Again this is my rumour mongering, and demidov would have been the only guy i had interest in moving up for.
What i liked:
Parehk is a great pick hard to argue.
Had gridin on the radar but had centers ahead if him, le sigh. Not that i mind the pick mind you but saw him in the second.
Battaglia interest and went right where we picked him.
Mews and misa might be steals especially where we got them. Misa might be a real coup.
Basha good pick roughy where he was projected. Other guys will watch development.
Overall: really good draft injecting some high end skill with misa, parehk, basha.
Also we quietly added both a first and a second for next years draft something we cant overlook.
In just over a year we have turned a defensive dearth into a strength. Adding three more defenders including a real talent in parehk, with a really nice mix of defensive and offensive accumens.
Our strength on wing got strengthier adding basha and battaglia to an already deep winger pool.
Honestly add a couple of high end centers to this group and we really have something.
In all my years watching this team im not sure i have been as excited as i am now and considering we could add another first and a couple of seconds next year as guys like kuzmenko, sharangovich, kadri, backs, Anderson decide whether they are staying or going.
I am most excite.

The Flames have a pretty good GM in Craig Conroy, me thinks. A+ based only on other people's projections of the players the Flames picked.

Really like the draft. I think in any draft there are winners and there are losers. I think the Flames fall into the group of winners for sure. Some solid prospects that do add depth at all positions. Still need some blue chip high-end talent on the forward lines, but there are some players with potential there. Maybe those blue chips come next draft.

Biggest surprise of the weekend for me is we ended up with more picks than we went in with. I thought for sure they would use the excess picks to maneuver up, or trade for a young established player or two.
Again, to Jiri’s point I think this signals an exciting direction. Build through the draft. Re-stock the system.
Can’t remember being this excited about the direction of the team.
