I'm not hung up about anything. I simply have a different opinion of who we should include in our prospect rankings, because I think having played some NHL games shouldn't be the defining factor (I prefer age).
You can disagree. You can call me wrong. Knock yourself out.

Number of NHL games is also arbitrary.
Is Wolf a prospect? He has played 17 NHL games, but is likely here to stay.
IMO, he's a prospect, none the less.

Wolf hasn't made the nhl full time though. He just played in the AHL playoffs so yes he's a prospect.

it's not "number of NHL games", it's made the NHL full-time
yes, Wolf is still a prospect. you can tell because you're saying he's "likely" here to stay, and not positively here to stay. when he finishes a full season with the big club then he's no longer a prospect. it's not arbitrary

It absolutely is arbitrary. Why do you think every public ranking of team's prospects is different?
Answer: because they all have to choose their own rules for who is, and isn't, a prospect.
And at least one of them came to the same conclusion as me and said screw it - just go by age.

For my money (which is not worth much), Zary and Pospisil have graduated, Wolf is a prospect at least until training camp.
The way CP's prospect polls have always worked is to consider a prospect graduated if he's made the NHL full-time. I'm quite happy working with that definition.

it's absolutely not arbitrary unless you want it to be. it's such a cut-and-dry definition. what lists are you talking about? show me an example. if a list of prospects includes players that have made the nhl full-time, it's not a list of prospects, it's a list of young players

Because some players haven’t made the NHL full-time yet, but can’t realistically be called prospects any more (a 33 year old AHL journeyman is likely no longer a prospect despite still playing in a development league but not having made the NHL, for example), and there’s no set definition of how one stops being a prospect other than making the NHL full time.
This isn’t as hard as you’re making it out to be. It’s actually very simple.
A player might stop being a prospect after a certain age.
They might stop being a prospect after a certain number of games.
You can make up whatever numbers you like for the above.
But a player always stops being a prospect when they’ve made the NHL full time.
Wolf is a prospect. He will stop being a prospect if he’s one of the two goalies playing for us full time next year. He has not played full time for us, which is why he’s a prospect until then.
Simple.

a prospective NHLer would be someone who is yet to crack an NHL lineup full-time. they might play some games in the NHL, but they haven't been told to buy a house in the team's city or stay with a veteran yet. they haven't been informed that they aren't going to be sent back down to the minors. they haven't yet established themselves in the league. none of which applies to Connor Bedard if you're confused about that

Draft Pick

I cannot get behind the drafting of Aryom Levshunov by the Blackhawks at number 2. I think he could be a solid but unspectacular player, and it's just too high to take him at that spot. I think the Blackhawks are going to look back on this draft and regret seeing many players they should have taken ahead of Levshunov, such as Demidov, Parekh and Buium.

A prospect is someone who’s still Calder eligible. That’s the way the NHL sees it and that’s the way you should see it too.

Sorry, I’m guessing 1 in 1000 people would still call Bedard a prospect.

And if they are never informed? Is there an official 'you are now a full time NHLer' ceremony that I was unaware of?

Please explain to me why, if this is so obvious, and cut and dry, that every prospect ranking article has different lists and different cutoffs?

There is an official ‘You are no longer eligible for the Calder’ ceremony, though the player is not actually invited to it.
How it works is, they find a reporter who still refers to the player as a prospect, and the official keeper of the Calder Trophy gives him an official kick in the nuts.
All very hush-hush, of course. You won't find it on YouTube. The NHL does not like to release film of events involving balls, as anyone interested in the draft lottery can attest.
