Not sure I buy it...maybe they wanted to move up. I honestly dont think Iggy was 6+ on their list. Frank loves those eyeballs

Must’ve been to move up from 28th and not 9th?
28th + Rasmus for 6th?

Chicago unprotected pick next year for the Blue Jackets is quirky. Lottery pick probably around 8-10 but not worth trading the fourth overall for it. Gambling and an interesting offer.
Fun idea though.

In a heartbeat no question would we have made that trade. Pretty much any roster player other than Wolf and our 28thOA would have been start the car for Tij

It's ok. We'll draft Joe and McKenna with the Flame and Vegas picks in 2026. It is written.

My first thought on this would have been Coronato and 9th for 6th. Utah gets a recent high pick forward with an All-American pedigree, and pick a D three picks later.

Tij can go back to Kelowna for a season and then Utah can quietly trade him to us next summer.

Ottawa would have picked 6th, Utah 7th, and Calgary 8th. So, all they missed out on was the chance to draft Catton.

I'll admit that I was pretty mad when Seattle took Catton. But, who knows how it all turns out, hope Parekh has a great career for us.
Just the fact that the Flames were interested in that pick is upsetting when the Utah, Ottawa, and Seattle ones were right there. They wouldn't have called if they weren't willing to give up something for it. Which is the cost of those meaningless wins.

They went 7-13 down the stretch, playing against some teams that were in full-on tank mode. Expecting them to lose every game is as silly as expecting them to win every game.
I mean, they got four wins in April, and every one of them was against a tanking team: Arizona and Anaheim once each, and San Jose twice. It would have been hard to lose those games on purpose.

Give it a rest, they lost plenty of games.

Good on Calgary not letting Utah hold them to the coals. Utah is basing it on pedigree and tried to play hardball. I really think Tij will be a good player but he or nobody in this draft will be his dad.

Flames trying to go to 6th for tij is interesting. Would have thought they would try to get Catton with the 6th pick.

I suspect it was more so Utah reaching out to notify them of their selection, and seeing if the Flames would panic/overpay to get Tij

I have no doubt that Armstrong called Conroy and said they were going to draft Iginla and tried to extort a ransom.

Perfect draft. Get the stud defenceman as they take longer to develop. Tij was gone before the flames had a chance so no overhanging emotions about picking/not picking him and how he develops. Plus maybe Tij joins as ‘the last piece’ so to speak.
I’m thrilled with how today went.
Cherry on top? WTF are the oilers doing? lol

Glad they didn't make a trade with Utah.
Only trade ups that would have been close to worth it were for Demidov or Lindstrom.
But we got a very excellent gift for staying their hand.

I would’ve traded Wolf + 28 for 6 to be honest.

According to the Athletic, the Wild offered Winnipeg #13 for McGroarty, but pulled it when Buium fell to 12.
