I believe such a limitation is something both parties could get behind. I feel bad for anyone meandered in that country right now. It shouldn't be like this.

It absolutely blows my mind that people still think democracy will in any way shape or form still exist in 2028 if Trump is in power.
They talk about it with such confidence too. Are people actually that delusional, or is it just endless cope?
"oh yeah, they'll realize the need for age limits" Good luck implementing that in a country run by a depraved psychopath dictator.

The only way Biden can be removed is when or if he choses to step down. There are no other remedies available to the Democratic Party.

I mean a lot of us knew that years ago, which is why we were screaming so loudly about not letting Biden run. Democrats showed how little they really cared about Trump's threat to democracy by lying and trying to shove Biden down people's throats.

I'm pretty sure Ron knows MAGA is going to vote Trump no matter what. Biden has to win over the independents and based on his performance tonight, he has a tough sell ahead of him. Maybe Biden allows the VP Harris to speak more to get the message out.

Voters hate her more than Biden. The only remaining shot they have of winning the election is nominating a new candidate. They're cooked.

Prepare for a lot of revisionist history here from top Democrats, political strategists and Biden supporters both internally and externally. There has been way too much pacifying the electorate, the media, the general public and other countries leadership. All is not well and has not been for a while, people just ignored it
This is the real Biden and the risk management in this entire campaign going back a while has been a disaster unlike any other in political history. There was and has always been absolutely ZERO upside reward to Biden running vs Trump in 2024. Zero. He either will lose, handing the country back to Trump or he would continue in a very diminished capacity, no capacity due to sickness, hospitalization or even death, resulting in a scenario that virtually nobody under 80 would have any memory of with the last President to die in office.
All the nonsense we have been hearing from everybody about how sharp, energetic, full of vitality and the absolute garbage about how Biden is the best person for the job is over. It's over. Only people sicker, more demented or living in a different reality would argue this point going into an election that has the potential to be transformative for all the wrong reasons. The Democrats and his enablers allowed this to happen and they have taken a lot of suckers for the ride. If you were an executive and Biden was your manager, he would have been fired.
Joe Biden's family and top advisers need to have the most serious conversation with Biden as soon as possible. They gotta put some butter on it cause he's officially toast.
I am a Conservative but want nothing to do with Trump as President. If the Democrats don't come out and deal with this internally quickly, they do not deserve to manage the country forward for years to come. Risk management has been abysmal.

Biden nailed the State of the Union address and got completely owned tonight.
The Dems have to do something and do it fast. They should probably dial up Vegas and figure out how to put Biden on LTIR. I don't understand how they could let Biden run again.

The hubris of the Democratic party dictates that you WILL vote for their candidate because look at your other option, right? How could you possibly vote for that, right? Right. If Biden loses it is YOUR FAULT.
First Hillary, now Biden. He just couldn't be the one term guy and let a younger, more vibrant person carry the baton.

You know, I want to take a different angle on this, because we've seen Biden deteriorating over the last few years, and its becoming clearer and clearer. The Democrats have denied it and covered it in the best possible light.
But tonight was more then anything else sad. Its a humiliation to the most powerful man in the most powerful nation of the world.
So where's the humanity in this. I get it with the democrats marching him out, and taking 7 days of seclusion to try to get him into at least passable shape for this debate and failing miserably.
But like Adrian in Rocky who kept trying to get Rocky to quit and watching him get more and more punch drunk until he suffered massive head trauma against Drago. Where the hell was Joe's family in this? Jill Biden is clearly a intelligent person, and she's been married to Joe for a long time, why didn't she put her foot down as she saw the deterioration and say, this is enough, lets pull the plug after term one, and get someone else moving on this. I mean I doubt his son would step in to stop it for obvious reasons.
But someone should have stopped this, its humiliating, and I agree with another poster here, another term would probably speed up his degridation, and it will accelerate fast.
And I get it, maybe the Democrats don't have good strength in terms of young candidates that can step in and push this ship, but Harris is not the answer, she's a lunatic.
Hillary is definitely not the answer, jumping in a celebrity, will probably, possibly save the democrats, but is this where we are at now?
They handed Trump a very undeserved but large victory tonight, and Joe was the one that called this out. But instead of focusing on Trumps lies and bull####, which would have happened if any other candidate would have been on stage. That wind has been taken out of its sales, and they handed Trump not only a large margin of victory, but reels and reels of ads going forward if Joe ran.
Someone with some human empathy should have said "Hey guys lets not run the old man again, he's done enough, lets get on with the succession planning.
How the hell do we take Biden seriously as a President over the next few months, how the hell is he going to survive and thrive in a 5 month campaign that's running at break neck speed.
Whatever happened to sanity in politics in North America?

I think I may just be done with humanity and this doomed world if Biden isn't replaced soon.
A Whitmer-Harris ticket with women's rights on the ballot would blast Trump into the sun. Which is exactly why it won't happen. I'm very close to losing all hope.
|
Because you've been staunchly defending Biden for months, pretty much the only poster who has. And not defending him as a "Yeah he's not good, but he's not Trump, and that's good enough" sort of thing, you seriously went to bat for Biden, acting like he was a great candidate. I was curious if you'd do it again, cause you pretty much have no choice? There really isn't anyone who can parachute in to save this. Whitmer-Harris might actually be even worse than running Biden lol. Tossing out celebrities in the hopes that saves the day? Why would they throw away their good, comfortable lives to go into the political meat grinder? Funny story, but even if Trump wins they'll be just fine as obscenely rich people, whether staying in the US, or fleeing abroad.

Is Gavin Newsom a total impossibility? Because yeah Whitmer is like... replacing Trudeau with Freeland and expecting polling to improve.

You’re dealing with a situation with your family members similar to mine, so we likely see/saw things similarly with Biden over the past couple years. I said to many people that someone who loves him should pull him aside and ask him not to run. “Joe, you did it! You were the president and now it’s time to enjoy retirement and life!” But seemingly no one did, or the message didn’t land. Cognitive decline happens so fast and (at least for me) you can’t really appreciate how fast and devastating it is until you’re in the thick of it.

And there really is no one to parachute in, for a multitude of reasons, but the biggest one is they've already missed the window to build up a candidate. If they had a real primary season, especially one where Trump was running unopposed, they could have used that singular media focus to help any sort of relative unknown to get some face time and build them up. Now we're entering the dormant period of the campaign over the summer, so you've lost the most important marketing period for a candidate who isn't already some extremely well known entity. Throw in the chaos that would be an open convention, and the actual solutions here are very limited, if there even is one.
The Dems need someone with instant cred, without any major baggage or flaws, which is who exactly? Michelle? Maybe, I guess, but again why would she put herself through the ringer? She's already done that life, if she had any interest in doing it again she would have at least done a senate run by now. Newsom? Limited appeal to the swing voters who will decide the election. Maybe call up RFK? Sure it's a bad choice too, but if Trump avoidance is the goal then he might be the best option (side note: it'll be interesting to see if RFK gets a poll bump because of this).

He did. Everyone got a poll bump from a tweet I saw last night except for Biden, who dropped.
The below video is sad to watch. Feel bad for the man.

The Dems have no one to blame but themselves. They kyboshed their own campaign. At this point, they most likely will need to take their lumps and hope for a comeback in 4 years. Or Biden sudden dies or becomes so incoherent, they are forced to to replace him. Which could realistically happen. Guy looks like he can keel over at any time.
