This is on Biden. I don't think there's any coming back from this for the Dems: if he does pivot and step aside, Trump will brag his way to victory over whoever replaces Biden about how he won so bigly at the debate.
That's not the dunk he thinks it is. I think a cardboard box would have won that debate vs Biden tonight.
How? He won the primary already. Unless they want to 25th Amendment him, but then Harris becomes President and she's even more disliked than Biden is.
Unfortunately this was all pretty predictable from the outset. They had a seriously declining 81 year old (never mind where he'll be 3-4 years from now) with a VP that virtually no one likes. At a minimum they should've replaced Harris with someone more likeable and popular. Because at this point, if Biden somehow wins the election it's pretty clear his VP will take over at some point given his steady decline.
Harris becoming President is the dagger for independent votes. The fear is Biden dies (or is unable to serve) and no one on either side of the aisle wants her in office. So, independents either stay home or vote Trump. The DNC knows exactly what’s going on here and haven’t shown the courage to stop it.
It’s still doable now, but they’d have to convince Biden to step aside. Them saying he has a cold and “scored a few singles tonight” isn’t leaning that way.

Sit him down to watch the game tape. That oughtta be enough. It's remarkable that he even wants to go through another campaign.

My faith in humanity is teetering right now, and the next number of weeks will show me whether or not it's worth holding out any hope for this horribly flawed species.

I'm outing my nerdiness here haha, but throughout high school I was in speech, UN and debate club, and did the NATO 'World in Crisis' scenario at the U of C. I'm not exaggerating an inch when I say that the poorest performers in those competitions could embarrass the #### out of Trump if they went up against him in a presidential debate - kids that are 15 years old with limited knowledge of US and world politics. Biden's performance was just terrible, even though his policies he got across were fine if one listened.

That was the saddest thing I've ever seen. And that's includes Muta's debate nerd admission

The problem is that most sane and smart people know better than to get involved in US politics. It's just so toxic.
That said, at this point the Dems should just have an emergency meeting, make a list of celebrities that could win and tell them the country really needs them.
Jon Stewart would do it if you appealed to his patriotism. Get Michelle Obama as the VP, and tell her she will be replaced after the election (because she already hates politics).
A ridiculous celebrity drop in at a last minute would electrify the election, and give the "please give anything but the establishment" people someone new to vote for other than Trump.
Or, get one of the senators. Bidens attraction was always that he was a safe establishment pick.
I don't think it matters that much if someone was nationally popular before. Whoever is the candidate would immediately become one of the most famous people on the planet, as every media outlet would scramble to have a take on the new guy.

Popularity and pre-existing name recognition very much does matter. There are many people in America who pay attention to celebrities but never watch any news outlet.
You really think a US senator or a state governor would have a better chance of defeating Trump than Taylor Swift or Jon Stewart?

The problem is that the Democrats have spent the last 6 years effectively gaslighting the public regarding Biden's age and mental faculties. Hell, look at the blue MAGAs in this thread who kept denying what was very clear and apparent to anyone not wearing blue-coloured glasses.
Now they have an even bigger credibility problem, and so do the liberal establishment media outlets who've been rushing to defend Biden anytime his age is brought up as a talking point. Obviously the right-wing mediasphere is a full-blown propaganda machine that would give Goebbels a foot-long chubby, but why should anyone take anything that the Democrats or their media cronies say at face-value?

Taylor Swift is too smart to ruin her life that way, and who the heck is Jon Stewart? Should be some random governor or senator who wouldn’t mind. Wonder what John Edwards is up to these days.
Hillary Clinton was one of the few people who could be more disliked than Trump.
I hope in four years time once the Biden/Trump years are over will that the Americans will realize they're in serious need of a political reform. Perhaps they should institute an age limitation? It's kind of wild that you need to be 35 to become President to begin with. I would think someone at 30 would make for a much better world leader than anyone 80+.
I believe such a limitation is something both parties could get behind. I feel bad for anyone meandered in that country right now. It shouldn't be like this.

Funding limits would do far more the country than age limits, but that's never gonna happen.
