Good luck to them. I thought they could get a 2nd if he rebounded lol

Yep, all I care about is whether the moves Conroy makes work out. Changes need to be made and that's what he's doing. It shouldn't matter if he uses the word 'playoffs' or not.

When he does sign someone don't be shocked if he uses the word 'playoffs' again. When he talks about the playoffs I think he knows they most likely aren't making them but still wants the team to have the mindset to try and get in rather than just play the season out.

All in good time. Gotta maximize value of those guys by tearing down slowly.

The smart thing to do now would be to offer the moon on 1y deals to top ufas and then retain salary at deadline and sell them for first round picks as rentals.

Mangiapane was not the difference between rebuild or not.

Yep it's a rebuild. Who is next to go? The way I see the Flames lines next season:

1: Put up lots of points to increase trade values

2: Give the younger players experience with Kadri

3: Veteran shutdown line to play tough minutes

4: All rookies

The cap space saved is close to meaningless IMO. Saving the retention slot for this year is what is worth something.

Other than the real dollars involved of course, just not really something I care about.

Hopefully they use it to buy even more draft capital. You don't have to make all the picks, you can make trades like the one San Jose did today when it makes sense.

If not, I'm fine if they ice a salary floor team. No sense in spending money unless it gets you prospects or picks somehow.

Not for ownership.

The drop in payroll should help offset the drop in attendance.

If the Coyotes could operate with a 5000 seat arena for a year, I'm sure the Flames will be fine over next few years as they rebuild.

There have been some very vocal people even in the Markstrom trade thread.

This is a great deal. I was not expecting to get a 2nd round pick for him.

We are going to see some outright horrifying zero entertainment value level hockey over the next few years.

Remember the Young Guns era, this will be worse.

The last two seasons have been the most depressing hockey I’ve watched live. At least there is hope now.

Now down to five of the thirty players that played games in 2021-22 still around. Six if Kylington stays. Seems rebuildy.

I don't think they will. I think they are still trying to push for playoffs as long as #8 is still playing.

I remember the Young Guns era and it can't be worse than that. Not possible.

Is it bad that I read that last line in the voice of Yoda?

I held on for a while that Conroy was going to try and walk the edge but I have come around to agreeing this is definitely a rebuild.
