But if the buyout Campbell just to pay these guys, they aren't any better in the last year before huge salary increases happen.
|
Buyout for Campbell is the only option. Cap hit is 1.1 million for next year., then 2.3 and 2.6 and three years of 1.5. Leaves them with about 13.2 million and a roster that looks like
RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Kane - Draisaitl - McLeod
X - X -X
X - Ryan - X
X -X
Bouchard - Ekholm
Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - X
X
Skinner
Rodrigue
I hope they run it back, a decent third line is going to cost 9 million bucks and then they have about 4-5 million tops to get 4 more forwards, an every day dman and a 7th dman.

I mentioned this earlier - Rodrigue has a contract, but he's not on the NHL roster, so if you pencil him in that's $775K off of the 13 million right off the bat. Who knows if he can actually do the job.

You’ve really conquered their problems by pointing that out multiple times now. What about the rest?

I'm just suggesting the math be correct (speaking of math, that was the second time I mentioned it). Not sure why you need to be a dick about it.

Not a single poster put together an entire 2024-25 roster structure, so there hasn't been a lot of math.
I am and was correct though. Let me rehash it for you so you don't have to go back. They currently have 7 forwards and 5 defencemen under contract. A fair number of teams run 13F and 7D. After Broberg and Holloway...oh wait let me show my work!
7 Forwards + Holloway = 8F.
5 Defencemen + Broberg = 6D.
13F - 8F = 5F. They need to add at minimum five more forwards.
7D - 6D = 1D. They need to add at minimum one more defenceman.
(Well technically they can run 12F + 6D if they want but most don't consider that a full roster.)
If they buyout Campbell, then they need to add a goalie to the main roster. Either a signing, orrrrrrrrr put Rodrigue who they have under contract at backup on the main roster.
No one is getting into the hypotheticals of all of the variations of things they could do. It's just nearly the bare minimum they have to do to ice a roster next year. They could even keep Campbell at backup.

Yes, they could put Rodrigue on the main roster. Or sign another goalie. Either way it's money against the cap which isn't there now.

I didn't expect anything but sarcasm and hot air from you. I was right.
But hey, go on thinking your communication style is perfect. It might make you happy at night, and at some point it's liable to get you banned from the board, which would be a plus.

I calculated that. Campbell buyout saves them 3.9 million off next years cap on cap friendly. Bringing them up to just under 14, take Rodrigue’s contract off and it is 13.2

And a roster of 14 signed counting him?

Ya below is what their roster looks like with a Campbell buyout and 13.2 million left to spend. It is a 14 man roster.
RNH - McDavid - Hyman
Kane - Draisaitl - McLeod
X - X -X
X - Ryan - X
X -X
Bouchard - Ekholm
Nurse - Ceci
Kulak - X
X
Skinner
Rodrigue

Big risk to pair Skinner with a rookie who has never played an NHL game. I think the Oilers are more likely to go dumpster-diving for a UFA backup.

I'm the one following normal flow of communication like 6 guys at a table and you're coming over the bar interjecting yourself like you haven't even been part of the conversation.
I get it, you're predisposed to supporting your buddy Gio, just like Roof-daddy does for dino, and Jiri for Bingo etc. I've come to expect it.
I should be banned for simple responses to unprovoked belligerent badgering from you?

I agree, which is probably a 1.4 million dollar goalie minimum, leaving them with 12.5 million to spend on 6 or 7 forwards and two dmen. It would be about 1.3-1.5 million per player depending on whether it is 8 or 9 players they decided to sign.
I personally think that Ceci is unmovable without a serious sweetener. Probably a 2nd and a 3rd gets it done. Nurse is completely unmovable. Not many options to create cap space.

It's a message board, not a bar. Deal with it.

Gio is no buddy of mine. But you're showing a pattern here, and you insist on blaming everyone but yourself.

Your ‘simple responses’ generally involve personal abuse, and not just of me. Yeah, that won't wash forever.

So $1.4 per player average. If they go min salary for 3 black ace spots, 2.25 comes off the cap and you are left with 11 or so for 8 starting slots. A team of tweeners in the bottom 6/bottom pairing. They aren't going to be able to keep both Foegele and Janmark IMO. Who knows how much Brown will ask for - he made $3.7 last year.

Lets assume all of this is true, then next year they have:
Nuge McDavid Hyman
Kane Draisaitl Holloway
Tanev Ryan 4th Liner
(Tanev made 3.5 mil last year so him plus your definition of 4th Liner, is 500k too much but I will give you that)
4th Liner 4th Liner 4th Liner
Scrub Scrub
Bouchard Ekholm
Nurse Ceci
Kulak Broberg
Skinner
1.5 mil
Backup
Their bottom 8 fwds consists of:
Brandon Tanev type of player
Derek Ryan
4 - 4th Liners
2 - scrubs
Maybe one of the scrubs is a d-man so they have an extra one of those.
Their depth is going to be brutal next year, there is a reason they termed this year cup or bust.
And they busted.
