Yeah I hear you, I should've elaborated: showing up habitually late when there's a designated start time, and not getting why it's even an issue.

Yeah, that's what he was doing. I haven't seen anything from McDavid that shows humility. He is full of sour grapes and he proved it again.

Normally I'd be disappointed and move on but McDavid is supposed to be the ambassador for the game and the guy the NHL is looking upon to be the leader. That was setting a poor example. He's leading in the wrong direction with that move.
Their distortions of reality are something to behold.

They wouldn't need to sign a goalie. They have Rodrigue signed at $.775.

Was just watching the Euro's at an Irish pub in Vancouver and we got into talking about diving in the sport with the Irish bartender; how punishment needs to be given out after the fact because it's too difficult for refs to catch it all live.
He says it's basically cheating, to which I agreed.

He then goes "yeah, it's getting bad in ice hockey too" so which I reply "good thing those stupid, diving Oilers lost last night, they are the worst".

He then tells me he's a die hard Oilers fan after starting to follow them because of McDavid 4 years ago

How do you do off about the evils of diving in the sport, all while being an Oilers fan?
The distortions of reality indeed.

That is beautiful.

I explained to my girls (almost 6) this morning at breakfast what happened last night, and one of them went upstairs and said the following:

"Mom. I have good news and bad news.
The bad news is hockey is over for this year.
The good news is Edmonton did not win!"

Again, I am so proud...

He isn't on their NHL roster and not in their current cap so it'd be like signing him - he'd cut into their cap by $775K. There's also the fact he's never played an NHL game and he's expected to be a full time backup?

Awesome!
How do we not have unlimited ‘thanks’ at a time like this??

You've either ignored the flow of what I've said and in response to who, or you're trying to spur an argument I think?

a few gems from the other site:

I just feel so bad for the guys. McDavid and Draisaitl are just targets and the league does nothing but say "it's playoff hockey" while Tkachuk and Bennett flop around and are labeled champions.

As bad as Tkachuk’s on ice comments were after the game, Maurice’s were even more vomit inducing. He took Narcissism to a new level. I don’t remember them word for word because, honestly, I wanted to forget them as soon as I heard them but he basically compared himself to every great in hockey who had ever won the Stanley Cup because he himself has now won one too. Rocket Richard was one of the names he pulled out of his ass. It was infinitely more bizarre and out there than any of the other pressers he’s given during the playoffs on nights when he was feeling good about himself. Nick Zito isn’t the only lunatic working for that team.

We could have had Matt Tkachuk. But we picked the goofy looking Finn.

the trolls are out with their little "is this the closest McDavid will get to the cup?" thread and the mods dont do anything about it. This site sometimes.

It sucks that Gary and his #### League got to suck up all the hype, drama, excitement, revenue, and storylines that only the Oilers and the Edmonton market could bring to this League creating one of the most intriguing Cup finals in history, and they he doesn’t even need to award Edmonton a Cup over it. f***in piece of a #### vampire. Without Edmonton, this is just another mediocre cup final that does nothing for the popularity of the League.

Tin foil hat on for this one probably just still upset. But something just doesn’t sit right with me about how this all played out. In 2006 the team made a Cinderella run getting all the way to game 7. Game 7 it was like everyone just stopped playing. I chalk it up to having nothing left in the tank. Fast forward to 2024 team makes it game 7 and almost the identical scenario plays out minus the empty net goal. Now I’m not saying that sports are 100 percent scripted but at this point you have to wonder. How do two teams 18 years apart have almost exactly the same thing happen in game 7 for some of them being their last chance at a cup? Does anyone else here start to wonder if it’s all smoke and mirrors and the players follow a script?

That had to be the absolute worst ice conditions in recent history. Home ice advantage was definitely on display last night.

No, I'm saying that the fact they signed a guy to a minor league contract who isn't on their NHL payroll doesn't help the argument that they are in cap trouble. he's not counted aganst the cap already so if they bring him up he dents the cap (as minimally as possible but still the better part of a million bucks). And that's the quality of additions they are going to have to make to stay under the cap. Pickard backed up just fine in the POs. A raw rookie? I doubt it.

Foegele is going to want $3-4M. Brown is going to want his $3M again. Janmark is going to want $2M. Those three guys were a huge part of their PO success (PKs).

Holloway is going to want $1.5M Broberg too. I hope they hold out. They will still need to replace Desharnais and Stecher.

Oilers are going to be worse next year.

Imagine, another 18 years wait to get to the final again, if ever, Oilers fans, I'm just glad that I will not be around to witness that again.

Imagine being so fragile that you would think that comments like that would need to be moderated.

Then again, I got suspended on HFBoards for disagreeing with an Oilers fan that Kevin Lowe was the most respected person in hockey.

You never said why you wrote it.

On the Internet, people can only respond to what you actually said, not what you think you meant.

He didn’t respond to what I said. It appears his intent is to aggravate me into a stupid debate over minutiae of an alternate scenario tangent to the original flow of the conversation.

And here you are again like the other night, interjecting yourself into something between two users that doesn’t require your response. Or maybe you and Gio are the same account. It does feel like a conversation with two of the same person and hence my confusion as to what the heck the point of the posts written below quotes of my posts. Gettin weird around here. I guess it wasn’t all “Oilers are gonna win the cup!” stress for some of you.

They can run it back...
Who is taking on 15 million in cap space for a late first round pick? Maybe Broberg and a 1st and you can move Campbell.

No way that Broberg and Holloway should take 1.5 million each. Have to think their contracts will be more than that.
