My 9 year old son and I shared one of the best moments ever. He and I were so ####ing happy we were both crying. He's hugged me harder than he's ever hugged me in his life. This will be a memory for a lifetime.
I don't take it for granted at all. I was his age when the Flames won the cup, and it's been that long since a team I've actively been a fan of has been able to win it.
This is rare, this is special, this is why we all love sports.
Our experience was similar... but also different. My son is 10. We both were on the couch laughing maniacally as the Oilers lost. We didn't really care who beat them (no offense of course, 2nd fav team atm, congrats etc), it was just the pure unadulterated schadenfreude.
Full embrace of the dark side. Pointing and laughing at McDavid's tears, and weakness at not showing up for the trophy he didn't deserve.
My Lady told us we were being sore winners. I yelled something about Boston Pizza and got "the look", and the kid got sent to bed early, but we still high fived on the way out.
It was rare, it was special, it was why we hate the g-d damn Oilers!
Oilers SUCK!

Thank you Panthers. It is wet today here in Calgary as the "River of Tears" has arrived from parts north. I have a smile on my face which will sustain me for a long time as the Flames dribble along in mediocrity. You saved us from having to go through pain heaped on pain. Again thank you Panthers.
Such a relief that we can all just enjoy the draft without having to listen to everyone who comes to the podium congratulate the Oilers on their Stanley Cup victory.
Thank you Jobu!!!!
Amen. I have to be in dumpsville next weekend and was dreading it if they won. It would have been sickening. I just hope the fires are out by then.
Not the dumpster ones though, those burn like the eternal olympic torch!

The Florida Panthers now hold a special place in my heart, they saved us from such a terrible possibility that I don't even want to mention it. I don't think I've ever screamed and yelled so loud as the clock hit zero, it was incredible.

As I said in the game thread, I'm going in there in August for 4 days to see Metallica. Having to be there for 4 days was enough.
My sister already told me we aren't driving all over the place because my brother-in-law isn't familiar with Edmonton. But it would have absolutely sucked to have them winning the Cup shoved down my throat for 4 days. And I'm sure it would have been brought up at the concerts by multiple bands to suck up to the crowd.
Thank you ESPN. I got to enjoy this without Sportsnet and eat #### Sportsnet, Maclean, TSN, Seravalli, you name it. You all can eat this.
This was the most I've been invested in a finals in a while and I have ESPN to thank for it. Not a second was spent watching whatever the F was going on during the SN broadcasts. Didn't have to hear a single opinion by any of that crap panel. Didn't have to bear witness to the worshiping of Mcdavid or his team. Spent every minute laughing at those who complained about the SN broadcast, when the solution is but a few clicks away.
Top quality broadcast by ESPN, day in and day out.
I worked event staff in Red Deer for the Memorial Cup when Matthew was playing.
He showed up to do an interview and a buddy was working the entrance to the media area. Keith showed up with no accreditation and there was nobody to meet him.
"All I know is some dude that is Orca big showed up claiming to be Keith Tkachuk, no way that fatty was getting in."
