Also- Flames have I believe to be the #3 best draft capital in the league after Utah and Chicago. + They're not done yet. Coyotes picked up a lot of draft picks facilitating trades and cap dumps. Flames haven't even done yet. Chicago went scorched earth. Flames still have Coleman, Andersson as trade chips. Maybe even Kadri.

I would prefer for the Flames to see what some teams in cap trouble would give to get rid of some assets

Philly has 7 million to sign 4 players. What is their sweetener to take on Ryan Johansen?

Vegas has 6.1 to sign 3 players, is there a player they want to dump?

Colorado has a hot mess on their hands cap wise, would they give you something of value if you took Manson off their hands.

Would Dallas add a sweetener to take Faska given the players they need to sign (10) and only 16 million in cap space.

I feel like there are a number of teams out there that have contracts the Flames could pick up and get a couple 2nds or a 1st for.

I don't know if the Flames are going to gut the team as much as some want them to.

McLennan made a good point on Barn Burner that you don't want Wolf getting shelled more than he has to and facing six breakaways a night. That's going to wear on him and hurt his development.

If someone wants out like Mangiapane apparently does then yeah, get rid of him.

I fully expect we will have one more first this year when its all said and done. Not sure about top ten though. Lots of good looking players scattered throughout the first to middle of second and beyond.

Reading the tea leaves, On the Marek show today Friedman suggested teams (did not suggest the Flames FWIW) might offer UFA defenseman higher AAV and shorter terns. He did however mention in a separate thought that the Flames were looking to go this route in free agency so we can do the math.

I expect the Flames to try and sign veteran D like Brady Skjei to short term high dollar deals so Wolf has an actual NHL caliber defense in front of him.

Seems like my guess was right and Conroy stuck to his guns and Fitzgerald was the one that gave in to Conroy's price in the end. Conroy is shaping up to be a pretty saavy GM.

The big question is if 2025 1st and Bahl is all it took to get Markstrom and retention, why didn't this get done at the TDL?

That's a total headscratcher for me.

Imagine offering a conditional third and then going to the media complaining that you put forward your best offer. What a guy that Fitzgerald is.

If all of that is true, Conroy is a complete beauty for holding out until now.

Steinberg on Flames talk said he was surprised the Flames got a first round pick cause up until the trade he was told a first was not on the table. Interesting that the Devils offered a 3rd, sounds like a Treliving offer.

Then Fitz got pissed, complained to the media and identified Jake Allen as the guy to get them in the playoffs.

A 3rd and Bahl sounds exactly like what we gave up for Smith although Bahl is a NhL player and Hickey is a bum in the ECHL.

Go back to Fitzgerald end of season presser when he said he made an offer based on what was historically traded.

The Mike Smith no matter how much we hate him was the best example of what to expect. The fact we got a 1st and a NHL player back is a huge win.

lol at TMZ Frank telling us we won’t like what we get.

Wow, not even a first, on CP it was definitely reported as a 1st back then, if not another good prospect, too.

Can we just boot the guys that came back in March posing as new posters? They are not adding anything and playing the same stupid games.

Not sure how anyone can look at this poorly. Even if the return may have underwhelmed you ( no one specifically here except maybe media) when you look at the change in one year its rather dramatic.

I dont think the changes are done yet. For sure mang sounds like he is gone but we have a glut if wingers, two who are ufa. I still think the team will be gutted but not particularly by conroys choice.

As a decades long flames fan seeing the team with multiple picks in the next three years is exciting and a nice change of pace. Conny is the goat right now.

Craig was never going to let Markstrom go for a 3rd.
Fitz can spin it all he wants but the deal in principle was always a 1st.

The first had been talked about for a while, it was Craig’s sticking point.
If he didn’t get a 1st I’d wager Markstrom would have been here until someone ponied up or the deadline next year.

Fitz acting like he was playing from a position of power is laughable, based on what was told Fitz had to make a move, his jobs on the line if they don’t make the playoffs this year.
