It’s imperative that the Panthers score the first goal as if the Oilers score first, the tidal wave will continue. I don’t like the Panthers chances of winning another game but if Bob returns to god mode they might have a chance.

Can we get neutral refs also.
Last game was a bit obvious.
The mandate is very clearly to make it a long series. But the oilers don't deserve that kind of favor. The cats were pushing in the third with only a goal to tie it with 15 minutes left and then the refs call some nonsense penalties on them to deter the momentum. Without those, maybe they keep the snowball rolling and tie the game.
They need to stay the #### out of third periods of these games unless it's an auto penalty.

I think the ref was Kozari sp?
Panthers 15-0-1 in games he reffed and 5-0 in the playoffs. Oilers 0-5 in the playoffs with him.
Something fishy is going on.

Almost like he got a memo to call the game differently than he usually does (like an official with eyeballs)
Coming to believe the league puts entertainment and audience engagement ahead of the integrity of the game and it's rules.
A quick SC win for Florida works against that. The oilers deserve credit for game 4, but game 5 there was definite meddling imo to keep the series going.

This was posted in the Burning Barn thread. Bags of money, betting, whatever the case it is, something fishy is happening. It happened vs Dallas as well when Knoblauch cried and whined to the media with tears running down his face that they didn't get any powerplays and they are a powerplay team. Suddenly the least penalized teams took the most penalties.
It's no surprise the commissioners name is Bettman.

I will say it was good to hear Rhett say out loud that the refs had it out for Florida last game. Can’t say that on Sportsnet I expect
It’s been obvious once Florida went up 2-0. The last 3 games, Edmonton has had 2 more PP chances than Florida each game
Oilers are 3/14 on the PP games 3-5, Panthers 0-8
McDavid, Draisaitl and Hyman can dive all they want, but you never see an embellishment call against the Oilers. Refs are happy to offset an Oilers penalty with a call against their opponent. Tkachuk last game. Marchment on Dallas was ridiculous. You could see the whiplash movement of his body
I asked earlier in another thread - I wonder how many embellishment calls you see against the Oilers, against the opponents of the Oilers and against anyone else
Barkov does a little push which is typical, you push the guy a little bit when the puck is coming to you, but then Bouchard goes down really easy.
Sure Perry gets a penalty for breaking Bennett’s stick clean in half - you have to call that, but then on the other side I think it’s Okposo who has his stick horizontal and doesn’t even impede the guy - 2 min
Pulling 2 Panthers out of the scrum for a full 2 min 5 on 3? Come on. There was a montage earlier of Oilers punching Tkachuk in the head, including McDavid. Nothing on any of those.
People say Florida just needs to stay out of the box but unfortunately it’s really not up to them. They don’t make the calls.
It’d be great if they determine that it’s going to game 6, that now we have a series, and have the refs quit favouring Edmonton

Well I hope the Panthers are working behind the scenes to buy the game 6 refs via the dark web.

We all saw Bill Zito at the end of the last game. Pretty sure it wasn't OEL or the empty netter that had him that angry. I'd be willing to bet he's been in every ear he could find since Tuesday.

I believe so as well, I would be pissed as well.
Florida keeps talking about playing 5 on 5 and they keep calling penalties.
Reminds me of our series vs Dallas, when we wanted a 5 on 5 game, but they kept calling penalties to make it 4 on 4. THat much 4 on 4 was rare.

Game 4 was pure garbage. The Flames took the last 5 penalties.

It's still 4 in a row.
The odds of winning 2 games in a row (in isolation) and the odds of winning 2 games in a row after already winning the last 2 are not the same.
You can look up the statistical differences of the two.
Otherwise you might as well say there odds of winning the next game are X, then the odds for the next game are X (1 game segments).
If you're discounting that they're going to be needing 4 in a row, you're scewing the stats.

Yeah well, ever since the flying elbow to the head Barkov hasn't been the same

I mean it all depends if you consider previous games as independent or dependent variables. Technically each game itself is an independent variable, much like spinning a roulette wheel. After game 3, each game is dependent on each other because you need to win game to get the other, but the fact that two have gone down almost makes the original odds moot...right now you are halfway through, after hitting red twice, so what are the odds of hitting red again? Technically 50/50, twice? ~20%
Ahh this feels like work when we try to use statistical analysis for retargeting ads...ugh...and trying to separate the variables in the data.

Good way of looking at it, but I disagree that each game is independent in sport.
There's an emotional component that impacts the team who has already won 2 and the team that has lost 2.
The argument I'm making is that it's not like a roulette wheel and I think historical statistical data would support that.

Yeah. The games are not treated the same as a regular season game move on to the next type situation.
A lot of different variables at play. The Oilers know they can’t lose another game or it’s over. The Panthers know they just need a win. That can play into the psyche of a person.
I think it’s already made a big difference in this series. I don’t think anyone thought this was going to be a sweep and the Panthers coming out to a 3-0 lead probably shocked everyone involved.
I think that’s played a role into them not being able to close this out. They probably thought it would be easy, or just score a goal and Bob steals it. They have been humbled twice now.
There is a reason 3-0 series leads rarely lead to a come back. This will be no different.
Florida will win the Stanley Cup tomorrow.
