Yeah. My monthy cheap promo subscription was about to expire so I clicked the non-renewal box and they immediately offered to make it $10 for the year (instead of for the month).
Worth it at that price.

Don't love the deal. I am willing to wait to pass judgement though as the pro scouts have found a few gems last season in kuzmenko, miromanov and sharangovich

I always believed a fully retained Markstromw.as worth 10th overall by itself. In a bidding war you get a Bahl in there
In no way was Markstrom.getting 10th overall without full retention.
Long and Short of it, I think the value is on par with what I figured was a fair trade at full retention.
31 percent retention gets you a prospect and a later year 1st. Could have done without the top 10 protection but that's the cost of doing business I suppose.

Frankly I think it wouldn't be a bad idea if Roger McQueen started keeping his eyes on the Calgary apartment rental market now.

No Mercer, no Holtz, no top 10 pick.
But now I'm sure it's time to vastly overrate kevin bahl from where you all had him 12 hours ago.

You got an old, expensive, inconsistent goalie who some have indicated may have a chronic groin injury
And
We got a first and a young defender with some promise
Is that your point?

Isn’t that what this is?
It’s actually better than lottery protected if it’s top ten protected.

Are you here to gloat like its a fleecing for either team? There's significant risk for the Devils but I doubt you'll be back here posting if Markstrom has a bad season.

Don’t really love that it’s top 10 protected if we’re retaining salary. That should maybe be top 3 protected or something. It’s an okay deal, I’m glad they pulled the trigger and at some point negotiations have to end and as long as it’s reasonably fair it’s fine. It fits a good strategy, which I like.
I wonder if CGY instead of saying “a pick and a prospect” (presuming that’s what was said) just said “as high a pick as possible”. Bahl doesn’t move a needle, but potentially moving from 11th overall to 7th or something might, basically, would giving up Bahl in the deal lead to NJ relinquish the requirement for the pick being top 10 protected?

Don't like the return. Over 4m retained is worth 2/3 of that 1st rounder. But....I don't like markstrom much and don't think he's worth alot anyway. Excited for more Wolf.

Going to lose sleep tanking next year
Has any GM done more damage when he left the team?

Pretty much what I expected which, piggybacking on Scorp’s suggestion, was 2025 1st Bahl or Bahl type prospect and Allen back as a cap dump.
The protection isn’t a big deal in my mind. Will most likely be a pick between 11-25. I. The same way I expect the Flames will be bottom 10 without Markstrom, I would think the devils will finish outside of the bottom 10.

Love this. You tube shows his scraps . He holds his own. Better fighter than Regher.
Conroy immediately said he's a Zadorov comparison but younger and likely more upside In terms of he's got more upside....he hits like Regher and Z and looks more mobile than both.
Guy hasn't even stepped on the ice yet and people are bithcing. We need an Engelland type player on the back end that can do it all without hesitation and he checks allot of boxes according to Connie himself.

The real question is puckpedia or capfriendly right.
Sites are mixed if it is top ten or lottery protected. Top ten protected then no issues, if it it lottery protected then it is a lot less comfy.

37th overall is the estimated cost of 4 mill. That more than cancels out Bahl.
And a 2025 1st (minus slightly) is actually significantly closer in value to nothing (Fleury) than it is a top 10 pick.
Anyway, enjoy Mercer, Holtz, Top 10 pick, and not having to retain. Oh wait
