Why is it ridiculous? Who cares honestly. It's not the Flames so they can be nameless for all I care.

no name hockey team

Yellow and black jerseys. Huge missed opportunity here.

The NHL is a joke. These colors are lame and this team name thing is embarrassing.

So excited to have another black jersey in the league. At least the NFL has fun with their jerseys and colors, every second team in the league has a black jersey, it's so boring.

At least Phoenix was good at trying to make some interesting logos/jerseys even if I didn't love all their attempts.

Why are you people so upset with the temporary Utah HC setup?

They say they need more than a couple of months to get the branding and logos right, so they will just adopt the generic team name and generic jersey for the first season, what's wrong with that?

It is better than rushing into a decision and f it up for years.

BTW, the color scheme is fine. It has a retro Pittsburg feel with the sky blue...

It's odd how so many people think this is the permanent name and logo.

It was announced months ago they'd be using a generic name/logo for the first season while they pick their permanent one, yet I've seen reactions all over the internet as if this is the name they chose out of the named options in the voting.

Yes. There are some in this thread even.

Also, from the rest of my post:

I've seen many people say something along the lines of "Hockey Club was the name that won the vote?".

It's ridiculous that they're taking a year and a half to complete a process that every other relocated franchise has completed in under six months.

Gotta agree with Jay, it is definitely very weird given todays technology that the best we can do is > 1 month lead times let alone > 1 calendar year… half talented free artists can likely come up with amazing concepts in an afternoon, and pretty sure coloured thread exists to put into production literally everywhere.

I don’t understand why it is so complicated but I’m sure there are bad non-sensical reasons millions will believe for the sake of debate.

It's really bizarre, it's even happening all over the place in this thread.

Relocation is a rather rare occurrence. Once in the last 25 years so I don’t know about treating the Utah process as kind of crazy exception to the rule.

Guys, why don’t they just go on Fiverr and get a logo for $5 and make that the jersey? SMH they bought the team two days ago why is this taking so LONG??

They did not have to sell jerseys

Once in the last 25 years. Four times in the last 30. Don't cherrypick.

A year and a half isn't long?

They've already designed a logo and a jersey for ‘Utah HC’; they're just bad, that's all. They could easily have had a permanent name, logo, and jersey ready to go by September – as every other relocated team has done.

What's so special about Utah that they need a whole season under a temporary name to get their ducks in a row?

Pretty lame if you ask me. Should have settled on something early. Or just kept it as the Coyotes, it was a good name.

If you don’t feel the need to cater to a bunch of focus grouping and just go with something you like/want as an owner, give a name and color scheme to a designer and get some fricken shirts done. It really shouldn’t take long.

I agree, it was a good name. Unfortunately, Meruelo is squatting on the trademark rights.

I've come around to the point of view that there was nothing wrong with any of the Coyotes' owners over the years – at least, nothing you couldn't cure with dynamite.

Don’t be ridiculous. Drawing a picture and making jerseys should take at least a year and a half. Think about it. No other process or speed is possible.

A year and a half is kind of long. But that’s how long between when Seattle got their franchise and when they revealed the name. Vegas was five months.

I’m not sure who you’re referencing with “as every other relocated team has done” considering in the last 30 years I think there has been a grand total of two or three teams that moved and didn’t just keep the same name or use the name of the last franchise that was there.

They probably could have had a name by now… the Utah Coyotes… with the same logo… wow… very creative. Instead they’re engaging the fans on the name, which is obviously going to take them past the point where they can be ready for the start of the season with branding everywhere it needs to be. I don’t particularly see anything wrong with that, do you?

And I agree that the “logo” (if you wanna call it that) is bad, and the name is simple (I don’t mind it), but again… are we really going to ask “why can’t that do what everyone else does?” when we have the same name, logo (virtually), and colours as the Atlanta Flames? lol. The Winnipeg Jets just used the same name and have one of the lamest logos and ugliest jerseys in the league, are we really going to pretend “Utah HC” is that far behind? Really?

You’re right, it’s really too bad they had to have the name on Thursday or else take the full year and a half. They should have asked you to do it for them or at least figure out how to do it in like 3 months, but I guess that’s impossible now because the guys on the internet think they now need to take the full year and a half.

Lol that’s not cherry picking. You don’t think the business of sports marketing and branding has changed a bit from the 90’s?

I guess we could include the Quakers and Bulldogs in there too. But taking time to brand themselves makes sense to me, what’s the point of rushing? Hell they are going to sell a bunch more stuff this way.
