Imagine not being able to sit with your son while he gets drafted before he puts on a jersey. NHL doing NHL things. I think this is one of the worst choices they’ve made. They’re making it about themselves rather than the prospects who have waited their whole life for this moment with their families.

lol I'm pretty sure Bettman was on his tour like 3 months ago and said Calgary would get a draft once we got the new arena

Pretty sure the teams were all in support of this.
Also I thought I heard that the "last in person" part is only for the front office. I haven't heard there won't be drafts in various cities, it just wont be in person meaning the GMs and scouts won't be there they will be wherever the team wishes to assemble to do the draft.

In fact, this is a newer thing for the NFL. They have improved their draft experience.

It’s more about the cost and disruption of every NHL team sending 20 execs and staff to operate out of a hotel for several days at their busiest time of year. The teams are all on board with the new format.

Part of the switch in Draft formats was due to how late into the year the season goes now.
It's a tight turnaround from the Draft to Free Agency when you're flying your hockey ops in and out of various cities.
