They will need a few points from him in the final...hopefully the cup winning goal in Edmonton

Edit: He's had a very quiet, very disciplined, very 200'-focused playoffs... yet still leads the team in points. Crazy. The way he chased down McDavid on that breakaway in the 3rd last night, disrupting him without taking a penalty... that's a new kind of Tkachuk.

That play epitomizes why the Oilers won't win the cup this year. Drysaddle and McDavid rarely, if ever would be spotted making that kind of defensive play to prevent a goal.
Even with their crazy point outputs this playoffs, the team has what? One 5-5 goal in the last five games? The top 5 Oilers players pretty much piled up the vast majority of their points in the first two rounds against two of the weakest playoff teams and since that time the PPG pace they are on simply isn't enough to close the gap on teams with competent, deep rosters.

The Oilers have been outscored 6-1 at 5v5 over the past four games and hold a sub-50% goal share at 5v5 for the playoffs. Their 2-0 deficit in the series MUST be officiating-related! Such a loser's attitude.
The Oilers' 5v5 woes had me curious how Stanley Cup finalists measure up. Over the past 10 seasons (20 finalists):
- 18/20 had a 5v5 goal share above 50%.
- 10/10 winners had a 5v5 goal share above 50%.
- The 2 sub-50% finalists were pummeled, losing the finals in 5 games and 5 games, respectively.
- 1 of those sub-50% finalists was in the COVID year where the playoff structure was materially altered.
The Panthers are #1 in the NHL for playoff 5v5 goals share this post-season. The Oilers simply cannot win the Stanley Cup without it being made into a special teams competition.

Especially if Barkov is playing banged up (or not playing at all). He looked a little more dangerous after Barky left last night.

Back check on McDavid breakaway and disrupts him enough without taking penalty?
Tkachuk. The guy who "can't skate". Chases down McDavid on a breakaway.
That is worth a lot in itself.
Drawing some penalties. He took the puck to the net when oilers net collapse fire drill hardly lets anyone do that.
He needs to do more, but F all?
He is a point a game guy with less than 19 mins a game unlike those around him on the leaderboard. He's 4th in scoring in points/60.

I don’t think the league wants this to continue to escalate with more dirty plays. They need to get control of this series

I wish the league would offer clarity on hits like these.
Obviously they won't

There have been zero sweeps in the Finals the last 10 years.
The Panthers and Canadiens are the 2 teams that come to mind, but both lost in 5.
It is both Florida and Montreal as I suspected, may have just been a type they both lost in 5.
But yes the #1 or 2 team in that category has won the cup.
Only outlier is Pittsburgh when they beat Detroit.

A sweep happens in the 11th year.

He hooked the hell out of him and would have taken a penalty in the regular season. Credit for this defensive play is on playoff officiating, not skating.

What are you talking about. Maybe for getting stick on his glove, but he didn't hook the hell out of him. Rewatch it. 7:49 in.

Hopefully the Panthers sweep, two Florida teams winning the cup in Rogers Arena would be hilarious

Looked to me like one hook and one swipe at the puck.
Just staying close enough to McDavid to do that is pretty impressive for a guy who ‘can't skate’.

Surprises me that teams in a final don't put a guy in game 2 and say go out, play over the edge "bruising" their cheapest players all game long and if you get suspended because it's a dirty play, no big deal you weren't getting in for another game anyway.

Dress Lomberg, let him hit McDavid right in the head. Throw the book at him, who cares. The league will have brought it on themselves.

Then your guy gets 5 and a game, the other team's PP scores, and you're behind the 8-ball. And chances are pretty good that you don't take any opposing players out of the series.
Not a good bet.
