Looks like those are concrete. If you scroll to the bottom there is a map showing the area, with pipe desc below:

https://brander.ca/work.html

EDIT: duh, the above is sanitary. Helps if I read the title. But the first map shows some different supply pipe types in the legend.

You can see individual house service types with this map, but no main lines:

Concrete is 99.9% of the time for effluent/sewage. Potable water is typically steel, copper, PVC, HDPE or PEX depending on age, what it's servicing and how far down the line it is.

This was obviously a ploy by BIG WATER to get us to "conserve" water and restrict our freedoms once again.

They noticed people being complacent with all this rain the past few months and decided to take action.

Thanks Big Water!

Well you could drive up there and report back to us in about 15 minutes?

I happened to drive past the area in question at 12:30 last night and the water was spewing rather badly even then. I had figured at the time that maybe someone had hit a fire hydrant or something. Guess it was way worse.

In amongst all the mixed messaging from the City and the Ab emergency tweets has anyone mentioned a timeline on how long they expect the repair to take?

Water Services does regular non-destructive testing of the water mains/trunks/lines. I'm not sure who they currently use, but Pure Technologies was the city's supplier of choice for testing for quite a few years. However, the city has a lot of water infrastructure so only a sampling of the lines are tested each year and it can be a couple years before a specific line is re-inspected.

The nice part about you southies is that you’re weak. Up here, we’re not complaining about the weather 360 days a year and refusing to wipe our asses without a lubricant, we’re busting mains and taking your water for sport.

Curious to see if we see much usage drop by homeowners. I WFH so I can be as greasy as I want but I'm sure most suckers that have to go into the office today did not/will not forgo.
If everyone just forgoes washing their legs it should cut usage significantly.

I’m not sure I get how it makes sense to ask residential water users to stop showering and washing dishes but restaurants (which HAVE to wash dishes, constantly) are allowed to stay open. How can a restaurant or coffee shop even curtail water use? I’m sure there’s a way, but it’s not occurring to me right now.

Full disclosure: I’m not an early riser so got the alert BEFORE showering. Keep your distance.

If anyone is really hard up for water in the coming days send me a PM, and I will let you fill up some water out by me.

You're thinking too small. This is clearly a ploy by BIG VAXX AND THE 5G POWERED LAURENTIAN ELITES to install a vaccine and nanotech 5G tower delivery system into the water supply. We'll all be lizard people by the end of the decade.
