Concrete is 99.9% of the time for effluent/sewage. Potable water is typically steel, copper, PVC, HDPE or PEX depending on age, what it's servicing and how far down the line it is.

I happened to drive past the area in question at 12:30 last night and the water was spewing rather badly even then. I had figured at the time that maybe someone had hit a fire hydrant or something. Guess it was way worse.

In amongst all the mixed messaging from the City and the Ab emergency tweets has anyone mentioned a timeline on how long they expect the repair to take?
Do they do inspections on this big pipe? I only know pressure pipe, are small leaks just common? You probably can’t pressure test these lines, do they have inspection pigs of some sort? Just curious. Cameras? But you have to shut down for inspections.
Water Services does regular non-destructive testing of the water mains/trunks/lines. I'm not sure who they currently use, but Pure Technologies was the city's supplier of choice for testing for quite a few years. However, the city has a lot of water infrastructure so only a sampling of the lines are tested each year and it can be a couple years before a specific line is re-inspected.

Gondek literally just said Outdoor is the only true "no-go" but showers etc. are "strongly" recommended against for the time being.
Curious to see if we see much usage drop by homeowners. I WFH so I can be as greasy as I want but I'm sure most suckers that have to go into the office today did not/will not forgo.
If everyone just forgoes washing their legs it should cut usage significantly.

I’m not sure I get how it makes sense to ask residential water users to stop showering and washing dishes but restaurants (which HAVE to wash dishes, constantly) are allowed to stay open. How can a restaurant or coffee shop even curtail water use? I’m sure there’s a way, but it’s not occurring to me right now.
Full disclosure: I’m not an early riser so got the alert BEFORE showering. Keep your distance.
