I think we'll probably be hearing the Flames name getting dropped around most trade rumours prior to the draft. I imagine any GM with multiple first rounders would be sniffing around even if they don't intend on moving it.

You don't trade for a Necas when you don't even have a core of your team.

The 2013-2015 top 3 OV are all over the cup now. Seems like it takes 10 years since you take a player top 3 to get there, but it's looking pretty consistent that you eventually get there.

The 2010 date seems arbitrary, when is you go back in the previous 4 years you'll find Toews (3), Stamkos(2), Doughty(2), Kane(3) and Hedman(2) are there in the top 3. That's another 12 cups.

It would be so Flames to start shopping for the coats of paint before the foundations are even in place.

If the package for Necas involves players like Mangiapane or Rasmus, then sign me up. Most great teams have good players over 30 on their team so the idea of he won't be good when this team is good doesn't make sense to me. He's 25/26 next season.
Don't think we should be adding 1sts, we should be helping the Canes try and win now and we get the younger player in the deal.
Rasmus and Mangiapane (50% RS)
for
Necas and 2nd
They add 2 players that combined will make less than Necas will command. They make space to keep the big list of free agents.
They ditch Kotkaniemi too, they might be able to keep everyone.

I disagree with this only because I think a guy like Rasmus should be able to get you more than that by himself.

Trading Mangiapane for him would be ok. Mangiapane is likely to have a bounce back season its a contract year for him.
We can't have guys padding stats and winning us game that we have no business winning.

Maybe the return could be better? But I don't think this trade blocks the Flames from getting a top 5 pick. Without Rasmus, our d will be so bad we will be at the bottom.
I also think Necas is better than Rasmus, but the contract might make his value less right now. Depends on what we sign him for.

Necas is significantly better than Mangiapane IMO. Mangiapane, I bet doesn't land us much in a trade unless we retain 50% salary.
He's also 29 next year, small and slow. I just don't see him being a keeper in his 30s and doubt most teams pay much for Mangiapane. Maybe a 2nd with salary retained.

If the team is trading Rasmus it should be forst 1st rounder picks/prospects and not a 25 year old.
Them trading for Nceas, or even seriously wanting to, is extremely concerning as it indicates they want to try to be competitive now.
People say we don't have a core and I wholeheartedly agree.
I'm still not convinced flames management agrees though. I think they see Huberdeau, kadri, sharangovich, weegar, andersson and markstrom as a core. That adding Necas can push them into the playoffs.
And it should supprise no one. This team has been consistently delusional and misdirected with where they're at.

I agree with what you’re saying, except Mangiapane is not slow.

If the Flames had an extra pick in the 10-15 range would you trade it for Necas? I wouldn't.

Is there anyway that Markstrom would be part of a deal for Necas?
Markstrom + Mag + 2nd
for
Necas + Katkaniemi

I would do it.
The team would be terrible next year.
I'd rather just take a mid to late 1st for Markstrom though.

The Flames are in no position to be trading away picks.
It really should be the opposite, we need to have as many picks as we can get.

I think that one would be fine. I only think Markstrom is worth a late 1st though. Shouldn’t need to toss in a 2nd though.

Ideal scenario would be that we're involved in a Necas deal as a 3rd party and we get rid of someone like a Mang or Markstrom and we just get a pick(s) in return.

Something around Markstrom for Necas I can get behind somewhat because we're offloading a soon-to-be depreciating asset and acquiring someone who could gain value with more opportunity.
Any other package that deals futures, to me it's confusing. Necas doesn't impact things so materially now that the Flames would be better, and his timeline doesn't sync well with a rebuild.
Futures assets plain and simple shouldn't be dealt for anyone right now. Let's hope this is not on the table.

That's a poor player comparison IMO. Stempniak?
