Say whhaaaa?
Going to assume the Canucks for Hronek. Scared to death what might come from the Flames.

If Necas is a flames, we aren't rebuilding.

Watching the Oilers make the Final probably isn't helping to convince Edwards that his team needs a rebuild. Even though that will help the Flames eventually get where he wants them to be consistently.

What a cherry on top of this week would a trade for Necas would be as a Flames fan. This organization is just so shortsighted it absolutely bewilders me. The fact that the Flames are chasing Necas at all is concerning.
Be patient. Draft your core. Now is not the time to add a player who will be 26 halfway through the season and will be demanding market UFA rates.

Firstly, it always comes down to cost.
But if he costs as much as i think, the flames acquiring Nacas would be such a brain dead move. That would clearly indicate they have no intention of rebuilding and are trying to make the playoffs next year.He is not Barkov or McD. The flames will be on a road to nowhere except irrevelance.
With that said, if all it costs is the van 1st + mangiapane, then #### it. I'm not enamored with any of the guys in the late 1st of this draft.
I think its costs way more then this though.

Unless Carolina sees this as a chance to dump Kotkaniemi's contract, then maybe the acquisition price comes down? Who knows.

I don't know how one could judge the move without knowing the price. He's still a young player with a lot of skill and talent. As Traptor says - would I move Mangiapane and the late first for Necas? Yes I would.

I wouldn't have any interest in Necas because it would simply prolong the wait until the inevitable rebuild. Trading for him would push the Flames up from sixth from last to ninth from last. No point.

Hopefully Conroy is just trying to drive up the price for the Canucks or it is Markstrom for Necas lol

That's fair but I'm moreso judging what it means for the direction of this team.
Mangiapane + Van 1st for Necas? Okay, but then I'd rather just trade Necas for another asset. I'd rather use the Vancouver pick to draft a player than re-sign Necas.
Beyond it all, I don't see Necas contributing positively to this team when the time comes to finally compete for the playoffs again.

I'm gonna go ahead and assume Frank is wrong on the Necas thing for my own peace of mind and also since everything else he said on barnburner today was a bunch of nonsense anyways.

As long as we aren't trading 9th then I think we will win a necas trade. I don't know why some on the board are down on this player at all.
If we trade the 9th it's a dumb move. But IMO if we can trade Rasmus for Necas as a base that's a huge win for our team going forward. I think we might even be able to land a small add in there.

I don't even think he'd do that. Canes will want a roster piece and Andersson and Weegar are probably the only pieces worth it on the Flames or they lose their mind and trade for Kadri lol

The main problem with trading for Necas is he doesn't substantially alter the future of this team, certainly not enough to turn around its fortunes overnight, and he'll be knocking on the doorstep of his 30s even if the Flames somehow manage to turn this ship around in 3-4 years (which they won't). It just doesn't make sense. Like Ashasx said, he'd immediately jump to the top of my "should try to flip" list, and the best-case scenario there is probably a package like the one the Flames would have to give up. It doesn't advance the organization in any meaningful way. They'd be better served trying to sign a forward in free agency (which they also shouldn't do).

Oh fun! I like Necas. Not as much as the packages I assume are being thrown around though.

Well no single player is going to substantially alter the future of the team, except for a small handful on the planet..
Cores alter the future of a team. He would be a piece of that.

I don't really think trading Andersson for Necas would be a big win, the Flames defense would be the worst in the league and the forwards would still be bottom ten. They will be wasting at least 4 years of Necas next deal and if he wants big dollars then won't have much value on his contract.
I wouldn't want the Flames to trade a 15ish pick for Necas and Andersson should be worth that.

The Flames don't have anything resembling a core right now. He'd be less of a core piece and more of a transitory piece like 2013-era Lee Stempniak.
Necas is seven years older than Tij Iginla. He would be to the new wave of talent what Curtis Glencross was to Sean Monahan.
