No. Absolutely not. Too many of you have tunnel vision here. There are far too many good defenseman and centers in the mix at 9 in this draft to be trading up for a winger.

So would the Flames pick Iginla if they win the 2nd pick?

Doubt it ... I'd look to trade back from 2, honestly. Don't think the drop-off from 2 to the 4-6 range is that big.
If they want Iginla, they're probably going to have to move up from 9.

Yeah. I think recency bias and his last name will have him go before the Flames pick now unless most of the teams ahead of them need defense. I wouldn’t be shocked if Montreal grabs him.

For some reason, it wouldn't shock me if Chicago picked him if they fell to 4th as a line mate for Bedard.

I could see Chicago picking Eiserman instead in that scenario, but Tij a possibility too

Who is clearly ahead of Iginla that they would pick instead?

I just thought I’d mention that if the Blackhawks win the draft lottery you’ll have a tough time convincing me this thing isn’t totally rigged haha

Honestly you might be right but I'm starting to think Tij has star potential. This isn't anything to do with the Iginla name, maybe it gives him more exposure early but he's coming together so well as a prospect. If he's drafted out of the top 5 the teams 2-5 might be wondering how that happened.

I think Ivan Demidov is kind of on the second pedestal, although it admittedly gets really tough to parse after Celebrini. So much is dependent on who picks where.

My takeaway from this tournament is that the Flames need to tank hard in the 25-26 season

I agree I'm not trading the other first. That could be a Mews or Hutson. But there is no asset I am not willing to part with to get the Ottawa pick. Some say it can't be done, but I think it's possible.

Trade Markstrom, and Sharangovich and Kuzmenko if they can and don’t add anything
That would do it

Might be worth it too because they will probably be bad next season at the very least.

mini Iggy goal....but first watch the replay to see his work along the boards in the corner, feeds it to the point, gets it back, and deceptively changes angle on his shot. That is legit for a young kid.

I'll say that I would only trade the Vancouver pick to move up if I knew I was getting another 1st in a trade for one of the other veterans on the team, like Markstrom or Andersson. The Flames badly need to make multiple first-round picks this year.

If we can draft Iginla with the 9th pick and get one of Mews, Hutson or Ryder Ritchie with the Vancouver pick, I'd be over the moon.

Tij Iginla turns 18 in August, Demidov turns 19 four months later in December. No birth days aren't the be all and end all but Iginla can make up a lot of development in the next year. We've seen how much he's grown in the last four. Celebrini is #1 but I think Iginla is in that next group.

IMO this is the true start of the build and the next two drafts are probably more important. Load up if you can but drafting multiple 1sts in the next two seasons is just as if not more importantt

If they get Celebrini, and some players next year, they’ll be improved quite a bit as some of their younger players ( Korcinski, Vlacec) take a step forward and more prospects (Nazor) take the jump to the NHL.
Not bubble team good, but out of that lower group into the group where the Flames landed this season.

While possible I highly doubt Iginla ever gets to the same level of skill that Demidov has. For me Celebrini and Demidov are on the first tier, then everybody else.
