Jets are in a bad spot...they aren't good enough and have no futures

Well, they didn't give up a 1st rounder to get rid of him at least...

Monahan would be a good signing for the Flames, if we can convince him to come back.

Flames are fortunate to NOT be in the division with Colorado. Good luck getting by them for the next five years. Comparatively the Pacific division is fairly weak.

There's a fine line for pro athletes and their performance affected by the direct and indirectly and the pressure and spotlight they are under in certain places.

Hockey and Canada is one of them. The expectation of fans of the players and organization, and the need for the organization to go over and above to engage fans and link with the team, thus dragging the players into all that, is a lot different for players to have to manage, and it always has been and will be a lot different than the US.

Some players are cut out for that, most aren't. Benn and Seguin, for example, would get ripped for years to the point of wanting out of wherever they would be in Canada, considering how much they make and what they have sometmes produce in a season or playoffs if they played in any Canadian market. In the series vs Calgary, Seguin especially was terrible, Benn not much better, both being paid more than any Flame in the ice.
In Dallas though, outside of the owner calling them out (which died after a few days) they've continued to be hot and cold in Dallas, playing without that pressure or spotlight or sense of obligation that players that play for Canadian NHL teams have to contend with.

I'm very happy for Makar. He is such a class act in this city. I've never met him but a few of my friends know him personally and they say he is the most humble person you'll ever meet.

He doesn't brag and you'd never know he was the best defenceman in the game by talking to him.

I hope georgiev can hold up and they win it all.

I can't believe fans were leaving at the end of the game with plenty of time left on the clock. Kinda embarrassing considering the Canucks came back down two goals a few nights ago.

I know you're joking but the Jets are the next most likely team to lose their team. When fans didn't show up when they were 1st in the nhl that says a lot about the fan base. Maybe not in 5 years or even 10 years but I have no doubt they'll lose their team again.

Damn.. Plenty of reasons to like the Avs. But I like the jets and feel bad though. Both of these teams I’m ok with and would have cheered for them all the way to win the cup. How could you not cheer for Mony, toffoli and Lowry??? Well, Avs or Canucks better get it done in the west.

1000% this. So tired of the pressure cooker argument, or any other excuse that gets thrown out.

Feels like an excuse to me TBH.

Is it potentially harder to play in a Canadian market...sure. But outside of Toronto I don't think the media scrutiny is that bad.

Edmonton media are all homers until you're off the team. Flames market and media is pretty calm and casual with no real pressure. Not much pressure in Ottawa: Vancouver maybe a bit more but even then I don't think it's any worse than New York or Boston as major U.S. examples.

Mismanagement is why no Canadian team has won in the salary cap era, nothing else.

I liked Monahan his whole time here (unlike some posters who were pretty unfair to him).

That said, he doesn’t fit into the team’s development trajectory.

They have attractive assets to trade for futures if they decide to sell.
