so at least we finally found a couple that went before 8th

None of those guys went 8th

If anything it shows there is a low correlation to picking D at 8th to franchise altering D

You confuse “can’t find a franchise altering D in the draft past 7th” with “should draft a D eighth that isn’t BPA because you need a franchise altering D

Because the odds of a franchise altering D being avail there is basically the same as in lower picks - which you nicely demonstrated

Which is a key piece. So it’s a great chance to get one
Franchise altering? I don’t know what that bar is
 |
Yeah, singling out "franchise altering D-men" as justification that you likely won't get a top pairing D man so why bother trying with a top 10 pick seems weird and misguided.

I hope he said something like “the team I watch the most is the oilers because McDavid is very skilled offensively and I can’t wait to shut him down in a playoff series when I’m a flame”.

I thought you were arguing that if you want a franchise altering defenseman, you have to draft them in the top 8, and you aren't getting one later than 8th.

I was pointing out that many (maybe most) #1 defensemen are drafted later than 8th

If he's a Chucky fan (and, I mean who isn't), then he can be that die hard of an oiler fan

Roy's favourite growing up was the Nords. He won two Cups for the Habs and then two for the Nords/Avs.

We are building a team here. You win with a #1C and #1D not a bunch of wingers which we are deep in. If Tij is the BPA at our spot take him.

The Flames need a franchise changing everything

Tanner Howe is the one who said his favorite player is Tkachuk. I think Vickers is implying Tij likes the oilers and McDavid

That’s actually the point - taking a D at 8 because you need a D and hope it will be franchise altering most likely won’t work . D are more unpredictable , especially outside being the top rated D in the draft

I would prefer the Flames keep acquiring lots of mid prospect D and aim for high end forwards with the 1st rounders, since as you have demonstrated most of the best D weren’t actually selected high - where forwards are more constantly
 |
Fair enough, I misunderstood your intent.

I got sick to my stomach when I heard that the Oilers were his favourite team. Like, your Dad is a Flames legend, and is an executive with the team right now. He couldn’t have just said, “I don’t have a favourite team”?
 Screw him, move on, lol.

Well a bit of a positive if the Flames pick him is that he won't have the pressure of playing for his favorite team ha ha.

Teenager gently rebels against Dad. I’m sure he has positive feelings towards the Flames but for a kid his age thats a harmless way to annoy your father plus the McDavid factor.
