Gaudreau and Huberdeau are both LW. I highly doubt the team would ever fork 20+ mill to two one-dimensional left wingers. At least with Tkachuk, he is more of a power forward.
If Gaudreau stayed and Tkachuk left, the team probably prefers the Necas deal that was allegedly offered by Carolina.

Anyone know where to look for stats and records from season series matchups between two specific teams over the course of the season?

To change the discussion away from how Gaudreau left again...what Flames veterans could be moved this offseason:

Yes:
Markstrom: I've heard this is all but a certainty, think he's done.
Mangiapane: Think they'd like to move him and he wants a change but think the market is going to be really soft for him, as it has been for wingers each of the past 3-4 offseasons.

Maybe
Kadri: He's the biggest question mark to me...rumours are he's happy here...but to me he's played the second half of this season like a guy trying to prove to contenders he's still got it.
Coleman: A guy you'd think playoff teams would be clamoring to get...but think the Flames want to keep him.
Andersson: Likely comes down to indications of if he's going to be willing to re-sign in a year. Personally I think they should be shopping him at maximum value.

No
Huberdeau: Seems unlikely anybody takes his contract
Backlund: Next offseason or trade deadline is the earliest I could see him moving if at all
Weegar: He's here long term as the bridge through the rebuild.
Sharangovich: Another guy I think they try to re-sign and keep long term
Kuzmenko: Feels like a guy they wait until next deadline to shop.

Mostly agree with this but I wouldn't be shocked/surprised or angry if Weegar asked to be moved, Sharangovich wanted to test free agency or if Kuzmenko decided he wanted to go home.

I am wondering if Lindholm is regretting not signing the contract that was offered to him earlier in the year.
My guess is Vancouver wont resign him, and he will not get the big payday he wanted.
I, for one, am glad he did not stay. If we are rebuilding, we need to be rid of players like him.
My opinion.

If/when markstrom gets moved, don’t be surprised if Weegars name starts floating around. I would hate to see it as I truly think hes a top D in the league, but he’s also a guy who is going to want to compete for a cup and he’s not getting any younger

Based on his recent comments I wouldn't count on him asking for a trade. He said he grew up not being a quitter.

Yeah
I meant at the end of their contracts, for those two we are going to want some sense of what they want to do by Christmas time I'd suspect

You may have missed this article from last week.

https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article...tment-to-stay/

Quote:
“Obviously when we signed here we didn’t think it was going to turn out like this, but that happens, things can change quick in this league,” said the Flames defenceman, who inked an eight-year, $50 million extension with the team shortly after arriving in 2022.

“I’m here for a long time.

“I love the city.

“It’s easy to ask for a trade, but I grew up not to be a quitter.

“I want to stay here. I want to win a Cup here, I’ve said that.

“I believe in Connie and Husk and Backlund and Naz and everybody here.

“I think we’re not far.

“I believe in that. I want to turn it around.

“I think it starts with yourself. You’ve got to take it upon yourself to help the organization.

That’s kind of where my head is at.”

Oh I see, ya good point. Another round of "do they sign or do we trade them" at the deadline again I guess.

I could see them also moving some peripheral guys for younger peripheral guys or late picks during the year. Duehr, Rooney, Hunt, Miromanov. And I still wonder if it's not the highest value Pospisil could ever be.

It’s not really that common for vets to asked to be moved when a team is rebuilding. If they’re paid well and they like the community where they’re living, they’re typically fine with riding it out. None of the San Jose guys were clamouring to get out when the team fell down the standings - they only got moved because Grier wanted to maximize assets. Guys like Gibson and Fowler seem happy enough to stay in Anaheim. The Preds retooled in the last off-season and Forsberg, Josi etc. didn’t ask to be traded.

It might be unwelcome for fans to hear, but chasing a Cup isn’t the only thing that motivates these guys.

Yup. Moving is a hassle, they often end up just leaving family behind which is a pain as well, the chances of a cup are not great no matter what you do (ask Jarome), they have a whole life where they are.

If I were Conroy, I'd be looking at trading for Orlov in the offseason.

He has one year left at almost $8 million and he's 4/5 in 5v5 ice time for them. He hasn't played badly there, but Carolina has better D ahead of him.

I think they would rather sign one of their UFAs and trade him.

Could get him for pretty cheap due to the cap hit.

Then Flames don't have to overpay on cap and term for a free agent, and he would be pretty moveable at the deadline with retention.

Getting him for cheap as in, Carolina throws in a sweetener, right?

If they want to pay us a 1st round pick to take him, then sure.

Its hard to say for me.

Going rate for a top four D-man in free agency this offseason is probably $6 million minimum so he's not grossly overpaid. I think Orlov is a top four on almost any team, but Carolina's D depth is absurd.

If there are any other teams interested he might cost something.

I mean Utah is sitting on $40 million and they might actually want to try to build a competitive team unlike Phoenix.

Red Wings are another team trying to improve and have money to splash.

Backlund actually came off a very good year last season.

‘This is a rule, it's the way things always are, and your exception doesn't count because shut up’ is not a valid argument.
