I didnt really like it. Overall I felt it was kind of an over-powered hack character? Up until then I thought Marvel had done a decent job keeping the lid on powers.
The nostalgia element of the film was kind of cool.
But again...it can be really tough when you take a more...I dont think 'obscure' is necessarily the term, but I didnt really know anything about Captain Marvel, but you've really got to work to sell a lesser-known character and Marvel is, historically, rather good at that.
Guardians of the Galaxy, Ant-Man, etc.
I just didnt feel sold on Captain Marvel or...whoever the aliens were and what was going on. It was just a 'meh' movie for me.

Wait, those are the reasons you thought I was a misogynist?
Don't forget how Emily Blunt distracts from Live Die Repeat because she can't close her mouth more than 50%. It's always hanging open. It's super annoying. Like...close your mouth. You can't sit there resting with your mouth half open and expect me to pay attention to anything else.
But...also don't forget these nuggets:
On a male actor:

I saw it on Sunday and literally had to look it up after your post to jog my memory about it. Very forgettable movie.

Similar style to Everything Everywhere All at Once or whatever the name of that ####ty movie is that is getting some Oscar buzz - that one I walked out of from sheer boredom with maybe 15 minutes left. I just couldn't do it anymore.

Crappiest movie I've seen in at least three years. Couldn't have been worse.

Not beefing with you or anything, but based on your rationale I honestly think you were just white-knighting/simping for female movie stars. I'm an equal opportunity hater and have expressed more hate for male-led movies in this thread than female. It's not intentional, though. I literally DGAF if it's a female leading a movie/show or male. It just doesn't register for me.
Another favourite show, btw, is Euphoria. Female and trans leads.
I kind of rest my case on this. I think it's indisputable that I'm in no way misogynistic.

The only thing I've picked up from Sliver's film reviews is that if they vehemently despise a particular flick it's going directly on my "To See" list. Typically, not always, a Sliver thumbs down means it just may become my favorite film of the year.

I think that's why I enjoyed the character so much. She's ridiculously powerful and MCU doesn't overuse the character (from my recollection. After I rewatch Avengers, I might feel differently.) I like that she's a bit mysterious, does stuff on her own will and timeline, and says call only in Emergencies.
If Marvel had created that character and then over used her power etc. then yeah, it'd be excessive.
Probably going to get told to go to the Superhero movie thread.

I also enjoy Cpt Marvel. Didn’t watch the new movie tho looked pretty lame. But they had done a good job of nerfing her for End Game with the idea that she would be trying to help 1000s of planets that didn’t have an Avengers team. And then when she arrived to just wreck Thanos’ ship - so awesome.

The no sell on the headbutt always makes me smile.
Captain Marvel was a good movie. Fun character, good humour, Ben Mendelsohn showing his range, 90s nostalgia. The Marvels wasn't good. Ms. Marvel was the best part of the film and I like that character a lot.

In fairness to Sliver, I can see why some people do not enjoy Everything, Everywhere, All At Once; or Poor Things.
They were at least somewhat divisive

Poor Things seems very hard to not like, even if it's just a mild like.
You'd have to be a prude. Or someone that can't watch 5 minutes of movie without mindlese action in it to keep the simp brain engaged.
EEAAO makes sense at least. It takes so many risks that you're bound to lose people along the way.

That's funny. I think Poor Things is made for super basic people that want to be part of a club that can engage with an art house flick, but it's actually super high budget star-studded Hollywood trite.
It's not an intelligent movie and it's certainly not made for intelligent people.
Nudity and sex have nothing to do with my dislike for it. Read some of the reddit threads and other outlets where people with critical thinking skills and a modicum of good taste discuss the movie and it might open your eyes to just how weak it was since you weren't able to properly assess it on your own.
Everything Everywhere Being Boring was weak, too. Same type of thing. A faux 'different' and 'quirky' movie for a basic audience of people who cannot appreciate actual different and quirky movies. A Hollywood version of 'different' for the masses. Truly not surprised you like it.

I don’t actually believe Sliver watched Poor Things. If he is willing to walk out of Godzilla why did he sit through 140 minutes of film he obviously wouldn’t like from the first scene. Think Sliver just found some negative Reddit reviews he could summarise into a rant to get attention.

35 million is super high budget? Maybe for 20-30 years ago standards.
Lol at attacking the intellectual qualities of the film. The point made above is that it's hard not to like, not that it's intellectual fare.
It mainly highlights the human experience, which nearly all audiences can relate to, and its strengths are overwhelmingly in the acting. Hence why it's damn likable, or at least easy to appreciate.
Not sure why so much offense taken lol
Guys on reddit with insecurities around their intelligence dissecting a piece of acclaimed escapism through a critical thinking lens? That sounds awful.
I don't recall expressing my feelings on EEAO. Weird conclusions drawn from nothing. I feel like you're fighting a bunch of points you feel were said/made but weren't actually.

I think so too, considering the takes feel ill informed.
He went to a reddit page full of trolls predisposed to hating on a film primarily (I'd gather) due to its positive reception and borrowed the general consensus there as his own opinion.
I mean, fair enough. But if you're going to inform yourself that way without actually watching the entire feature in question, don't go spouting off about critical thinking and informed opinions lol.

Poor Things is legitimately funny. Mark Ruffalo's over the top reactions are worth the price of admission alone.

I finally watched Aliens and that movie kicks ass, it's a perfect action film. But I prefer Alien, it just made the Xenomorphs more bad ass and mysterious. One was able to take out the whole crew, while this one they could take out so many they felt less intense.
Also, personally I absolutely loved the 4k transfer, it looks spectacular, it's one of the sharpest and crispness transfers I've ever seen, demo worthy disk.
