Lindholm's production this season in Calgary was bad, and a trade to the Canucks was his chance to prove that it was the Flames poor team performance that was dragging him down. Unfortunately for him, his performance with the Canucks has shown that he was a product of good linemates (specifically, Gaudreau, Tkachuk and to a lesser extent Monahan).
It demonstrates that he needs certain players to be successful, but not just any good player, as shown by his performance in Vancouver, as there are lots of players performing well in Vancouver. He's showing he's not worth top-line centre money.

I think a lot of people were giving him the benefit of the doubt while going through the motions on a Flames team he clearly didn't want to be on.
Now? If he wants the money, he's going to wish he took the Flames offer. As good as he has been on the defensive side of the puck, good on the defensive side of the puck doesn't get you paid.

I still believe Rutherford and his ego, who, having just been extended by ownership the week before, was at an all time high, and wanted to walk into the room at All Star weekend with his peers and be the star of the show by pulling off the acquisition of Lindholm, even if it meant overpaying.

Rutherford's MO has always been to make moves before anyone else. It's not ego, it's who he is.

Unless Treliving offers him a boatload of cash in Toronto the rest of Lindholm's career is going to sound like the laugh-track on 'Married with Children.'
Just a loud flushing sound.

A 1 year prove it deal brings him to 31 the next go around.
Not sure many GM's will be interested in giving a long term deal to a 31 year old coming off 2 bad season, and having to sign a prove it deal so he can get paid.
I think he screwed himself real good.
On a 4-5 year deal is a 6 AAV complimentary player.

Yeah, that 6AAV number sounds close to correct. Danualt is a good comparable, I think, who has an AAV of 5.5 and was signed in 2021.

A team will still give him 7 in free agency.

Right now Zebulon is running 4G, 4A and -6 in 21 Games.
$6M? I think he'll be lucky as hell to not have to take a Pay-cut from what he's on right now much less a raise. I'd bet he's regretting not taking whatever Treliving offered him.

Who from the Flames cares about Lindholm anymore ? So quickly do fans express their impatience and intolerance for someone who doesn’t meet their agenda.
May Lindholm continue to have another good game tonight.
And may it be a good game this evening.
Whatever the outcome.

Lindholm turned down $66m+ from the Flames, even if it was Lindholm who decided not to sign that deal his agent should be fired for not slapping him into reality.
At this point he'll be lucky to make half that kind of cabbage for the rest of his career.

Yeah, he and his agent really dun goofed. Same as Gaudreau.
The Agent...I dont know how much player involvement there is, but they really didn't have their fingers on the pulse of the market.
I like Lindholm as a player and as a person, but I think he and his agent have really pooched this.
Treliving was an idiot and when you're negotiating with an idiot you go for it.
Unfortunately for him, I think Lindholm has thrown away a lot of money, and I really cant explain why.
And, based on his lackluster play of late? I think he knows it.

This is sort of the crux of the matter. I like Lindholm, he's always been a good soldier. But what he was asking for was insane.
Treliving might have given it to him, but you'll note in my posting history I have always been 100% in the 'Trade Lindholm' camp.
I like him. But he's too old to demand that much term at that much money/cap with declining production. No. Simply...no.
Treliving probably would have given it to him. Because he's an idiot who should have been fired 3-5 years ago.
I am thankful that Conroy probably went to Lindholm with an offer. It was rejected and and a plane ticket was subsequently booked.
I think Lindholm is going to regret that, but I doubt that Conroy will.
