My face is a bum!

Hopefully he loses, but still joins up. Running some sane ex-PC candidates could help boost things.
I don't really fear things getting pushed to the point of splitting the party any time soon.

Lukaszuk would be good to show former PC moderates that it really is the party of Alberta centrists. I wouldn't expect a win here if he does enter, but it would lend to the credibility of the party.
I can't think of any other Alberta election in my time where I would have three candidates running I would gladly have as opposition leader for the next three years (Pancholi, Lukaszuk, Nenshi). That's a good crop of reasonable, smart politicians and caring human beings.

No chance he wins. I say that as someone who actually likes his political turnaround over the last few years, but his history as minister of labour isn’t going to do him any favours in certain circles.

I'm sure they're angry and they should be. Still, it seems very unlikely that 10k people who have voted conservative for as long as they can remember are going to vote NDP this time. I'm sure the UCP is counting on that being true as well.

Chabot, Mclean and Nixon.
What a giant bag of #######s. Sad (but not surprised) to see two of the most spineless sitting councillors carrying water for the UCP.

Its hard to say, the last time this mining thing came up, there were a LOT of 'Mountains not Mines' sign up all thru that riding.
I mean, maybe a water taste test would sway some voters. A splash of selenium in the glass might change some minds.

I guess we'll see...
Not seeing any other smoke around this supposed candidacy.. outside of The Breakdown teaser.
Nothing to see, folks.

I hope he stays out to be honest, nenshi is enough of the outsider candidate. Running 2 could actually allow an established party person to win. Would like him as a candidate though for a riding,

I wonder if Lukaszuk made any attempt to run in a riding in 2023? It seems awfully presumptious to 'cross the floor' into a leadership race. His old riding had a strong NDP encumbent, but he might have been helpful to turn one of the ridings surrounding Edmonton.

It definitely could get interesting if some of the candidates started to express sentiment that might be viewed as too centrist or even right. The more progressive or left could feel that their party is being taken away and rally behind someone like Hoffman.

It’s preferential ballot. Adding more right people just adds membership numbers that eventually go to Nenshi. The people concerned with losing the party to Nenshi already have him 5th.

You might be dumber, but if the quotes truly are quotes, it seems unnecessary that Nenshi is repeatedly attacking Smith every time he's in front of a microphone.
People want to hear why he's different aside from Nenshi good, Smith bad.

Lukaszuk confirmed on the Breakdown today he's not running. He might help out on a campaign, but doesn't embody NDP values and wouldn't be fair. He did put in a good word for Pancholi though.

Normally I’d agree with you, but this government has been so utterly incompetent that it’s refreshing to finally hear someone call them out on it. Fumbling money away to due to shortsightedness while telling us how this next season is going to be so fiscally challenging, and then picking fights against trans kids while no one has access to a family doctor and education funding per child is the lowest in all of Canada. People need to know all the stupid #### this government has done.
