Two more in our house as well, also first time members of any party. I was impressed by what I saw of Pancholi so far but a brash and loud personality like Nenshi to really call out the B.S. will probably be more successful this go round than any of the other candidates so far.

The bots and trolls are working up a sweat, it's quite amazing to watch. And their blue check marks make them TRULY authentic. Xitter is just the best place, 10/10.

I hope he wins, and I can hardly wait for a Nenshi vs Smith debate. He'll mop the floor with her when she comes unglued because she doesn't have a script.

Renewed my membership and will annoy those around me to do so as well.
I'm also now being extremely petty and invested in Ganley's come-uppance but I've never claimed to be fair.

I've been a member of Calgarypuck since 2003. I rarely post. But I'm here, surfing through the site, many, many times a day. These days I guess I'm a bit more private and prefer to keep to myself.
And to be honest. I probably wouldn't be making this post at all had it not been for the double Glenlivet I just enjoyed But I'll be damned if I just glance by with complete inaction as this province is turned into a breeding ground for the misplaced self-righteousness the UCP party has become., among may other rather despicable traits.
I've seen myself pretty closely related to the policies of Conservatives parties most of my life. But now, its like watching Anakin Skywalker turn into Darth Vader right before my eyes. And I'm not even that big of a Star Wars Fan!
Membership in the ANDP party purchased! Time to do my very small part in booting this UCP party and its incestual, backward thinking beliefs back into 1950. Good Riddance!

Here's Farkas' take from reddit

There is no denying the fear that many conservatives have of Naheed Nenshi. Despite many attempts, he could not be beaten and he could not be bought.
Should he run for leader? Alberta NDP members (of which I am not one) are likely to grapple with this central question: “Is Nenshi a team player?”
Having worked alongside (and often at odds with) the man for years, I’ve witnessed him at his best and his worst. Yes, he can be frustrating. He has an ego and likes to be at the centre of things. And no, he is not quite as smart as he thinks.
But the man I know has ethics and integrity. Up close, I saw him not only be generous with praise but willingly let others take credit for achievements that were rightly his. He readily accepted the blame for mistakes others had made. While he could be demanding, I found him to be open to compromise — so long as I came prepared.
After my loss in the 2021 civic election, many fair-weather friends ran for the exit, deciding that my usefulness had run out. Nenshi was the opposite.
Despite our significant differences and having every reason to gloat, he stepped up meaningfully to support me in everything I wanted to do next, even when I chose some wildly impractical goals. He never doubted that I still had a contribution to make, even when I doubted myself.
All are priceless qualities in a friend. Conservatives are right to fear those qualities in an opposition leader.
|
I wonder if he might campaign with Nenshi? They seem pretty buddy-buddy now, and he might pull in some more conservative voters from Calgary. Plus that would be the quickest way to quash the "not a team player" narrative bull####

She can't, because the party will boot her. Remember, it's run by the crazies of TBA. They control the UCP board now. Any move to the centre will be met with swift criticism and warnings to her, so she really has no choice but to appease them at every turn.

Crazy Flamer, I really appreciate the post, because I in my day to day life feel like a very conservative person. I appreciate owning and paying for things over leverage and debt, I am slow a careful to make decisions, I have never lived more than 15KM from either of the childhood homes, in my mid 30s I've had the same job for 16 years, I worry deeply about the total input cost of everything I use which has led me to a certain brand of environmentalism in my world view, I have 2.0 kids an attached garage and a picket fence. But the fact of all the parties Federal and Provincial, the one that aligns best with my view of conservatism is the Notely ANDP by a mile, and it's a joke to call the UPC conservatives.
Farkas is an interesting beast, I think at the moment he really proports to be what a lot of us have spend a lot of time dreaming about in a politician, a guy that can learn from his loses and adjust to realities that end up being different than he expected. I'm not sure if it's 100% true, but if it is good for him.
I am not sure about the others running, but because Nenshi is not so ideologically tied to the party, and because of the integrity aspect of his personality I think he might be able to continue that brand of conservatism in the ANDP. But I do worry about his condescension and bullying making it harder for him when he has to work as a member of a party instead of as a solo actor.
If Nenshi runs, he would probably have my support over the other options.
