I'm liking the mutli team speculation with CGY/NJD/BOS/LAK
Sounds like a golden opportunity for the Flames to weaponize cap space to get some more futures.

Do Flames have any history of taking retention in trades concerning other teams, like Philly in the Hanifin trade?

Until recently, no team had any history of doing it

Not to my recollection. Of course they didn't have a history of retaining in any trades either, but have now done it twice in the last couple weeks.

Isn't it comforting watching Vegas struggle with their old, injured team and depleted prospect pool and knowing the Flames have their 1st round pick in either 2025 or 2026.
It'd be awesome if Conroy could trade them something for their 2025 1st and then the Flames would have both of them, unprotected.
They started the season 11-0-1 and have gone 22-23-6 since.
Imagine drafting Gavin McKenna with the Vegas pick.

Yeah, it's starting to feel like three? years ago when Vegas missed the playoffs after slumping through the last third/quarter of the regular season. They just couldn't break out of their slump to savor their season.
Maybe they would be interested in Mangiapane for the 2025 first? Would that be fair compensation?

1 year of Mangiapane @ 5.8 million doesn't have a lot of value, I wouldn't think. 5 on 5 points be damned.

I don't think Mangi could return a 1st even at 50% retained.
I'd be happy to be wrong though.

Just looked at the updated TSN trade board rankings. The last 2 days have completely changed it. The top 3 trade baits are toffoli, rumba and zucker. Lol
The talking heads are probably praying that Markstrom gets dealt at the 11th hour today .
For the record I don’t think Markstrom gets traded

Guessing Turcotte or Kaliyev would also go back to Boston

still think Niederreiter is a decent comparison for Mangiapane. Traded for a 2nd last deadline after scoring 28 points in 56 games and with 1 year at 4m left ... if you retain on Mangi, I think a 2nd and a prospect could be realistic.

He absolutely could return a 1st back at 50% retained. Adam Henrique basically returned a 1st.

Henrique is a bit better scorer as well.
Mangiapane might get ya a 2nd and a low level prospect

Don’t think the Flames move Markstrom for just picks.

You could get Turcotte for a 2nd round pick in the offseason. Sure hope we get more than him. He has reached his Lias Andersson phase of his career.

This is the first injury free season as a pro, after going through the NCAA system, which made him an older prospect. Prototypical buy low candidate, or he is in the Zachary Senyshyn part of his career, I guess.
