I suppose, if need be. I’d prefer Vancouvers if it had to be a first, being it’ll be late round 2024. Vegas could potentially be out of the playoff picture, they are up and down.
I don’t think a first is needed to push this over the edge. Seems they aren’t too far off and wouldn’t take a whole lot on the Flames side to upgrade from Holtz to Mercer. That’s just the sense I get. But yeah, if a Vancouver first gets us that elusive U25 center, so be it.

I want Marky to be dealt before tomorrow. Probably won't happen though.

At this point the only thing the all-day panels tomorrow have left to talk about is Markstrom.

My initial reaction to that was #### no! But then you think about pissmissile's game style and his concussion history. Does he have a lengthy nhl career ahead without it being dismantled due to the playing style?
Center is the more important position and a need going forward for the flames.
Still think mercer + 2nd for markstrom should be the deal and it's fair. With 50% retention, add casey. This doesn't have to be rocket science.

My god how can anyone think this. There's no way they actually do. We've sold two of our best defensemen and a top line forward over the last month.
Please please please don't #### this up.

Can't wait for the panels to dump on Conroy and the Flames if they don't trade Markstrom and give them something to analyze.

Would it?
Or does Markstrom allow the Avs to breeze through two rounds only to collapse to the Coil because of his yips, in the unlikely scenario that they advance that far?

I'm mostly being glib but it's true. Mercer's ELC runs out this year and he's going to want to (and will) get paid. The Devils have already extracted his maximum surplus value. Now a team that can sign him longterm (like 7/8 years long) can still get plenty of surplus value from him but not the highway robbery value that an ELC brings.

That's an absolutely brutal response from Upper Management if true. This is not the year to veto a trade in order to push for playoffs. You make the Markstrom trade and then announce that the team is still going for playoffs? Fair. But don't hold Conroy back from making trades. I hope Conroy fights like hell to push the deal through if this is the case.

There’s a school of thought in the NHL that you can ride a hot goalie to spot in the playoffs and maybe win a round or two. Maloney had first-hand of experience of this in Phoenix with Mike Smith.

Kind of surprised Conroy picked up no centers at all from these deals.
Dreger still thinks NJ wants Markstrom and a source close to the situation is directly asking him "what does Calgary want?"
I'm still totally stumped by the Markstrom/NJ situation, why there are like 5 different narratives from 5 different insiders, what exactly happened and if it's still possible

It's a dumb school of thought, and has virtually never been true.
Don Maloney is the root of this I am sure you are right there.

Try to win with who? Lol
We are trading everything away for futures. If this is true might be some of the dumbest people in management right now.

Upper management can't be that dumb...
This team has no shot at the playoffs this year. Especially after all the departures.

They aren't even making the playoffs with Markstrom though. Surely they know this. It would seem utterly insane for anyone in the Flames organization to think this is a preferable strategy.
