I wonder if the Devils not re-signing Toffoli means that Holtz won't be traded either. Toffoli is who made Holtz expendable He would be a good addition in exchange for Marsktrom. Mercer, of course, was always my pipe dream.

Having an all-star goalie the next 2 seasons doesn't make much sense IMO

I do find it interesting that two teams that acquired Flames players this year are already looking to flip them. You could consider this a win for Conroy.

Devils wanted to re-sign Toffoli. Either he's asking for too much or doesn't want to be in New Jersey. Be interesting to see what they get for him (whether it's more or less than the Flames got).

Any rumours on Vegas being in on any players with their 2025 first as the centrepiece? Would love for that pick in the Hanifin trade to be turned into an unprotected first in 2026.

What that ask is, people can debate but (and this is me filling in the blanks) im sure he wants Mercer and a pick.

The counter, that has already been declined, was Holtz pick/prospect.

So really if NJ wants to re-visit this, all they have to do is move off the untouchable tag on Mercer. Other wise...no deal.

But again, and now that the Flames have 2 retentions on the books, it gets more complicated as to what portion, if any, the Flames cover moving foirward. If NJ does send a Toffoli or someone else out in a separate deal it looks more doable.

I think Mercer and a pick is too much. I'd be fine with just Mercer for Markstrom straight up. I'd even be willing to retain a little bit on Markstrom (20%).

All of these reports about the Devils circling back on Markstrom every few days, at this point if he doesn't make the deal and the Devils miss the playoffs from bad goaltending, you'd have to think he might lose his job.

Goaltending has been their Achilles' heel all season, if Markstrom comes in and sneaks them into the playoffs this season and then gets them 2 more solid playoff runs, that should be worth at least one premium asset (Mercer) IMO.

I think the deal goes through, too many eyes on Fitz right now. He waited way too long, but there's still a fool's hope that they can get hot down the stretch.

That's fine and you are probably right, but the guy down in the dome right now holds all the cards and he thinks it is fair.

Its why I believe no deal until summer.

Saw a tweet where John Shannon said on a podcast that he thinks Markstrom will be dealt by Friday because his (Markstrom) comments last week put things back in motion.

This would be very interesting if Shannon knew sweet F all.

I suspect he is asking too much. He's not going to find a better situation elsewhere.
